He completed his work with the help of a manual, entitled الدرّة المضية فى اللغة التركية, by Abou Hayyan el-Nahvi, which he criticizes, saying that this character had only a knowledge of the Turkish language imperfect, and that he had exposed the rules, not of Osmanli, but of Crimean Turkish, spoken by the Tatars (folio 3 verso). Ibn Mohammed Salih lived at the end of the 10th century, or the beginning of the 11th, after the death of Sultan Soleiman I. This manual is written in Arabic; it is divided into a preliminary chapter, dealing with special letters in Turkish; four sections, containing respectively the inflection of the verb, vocabulary, pronouns, words common to Arabic and Turkish; a conclusion, containing sentences and dialogues.
