American University of Beirut
Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut (AUB) is a teaching-focused research university that bases its educational philosophy on the American "liberal arts" model. The institution has approximately 1,000 faculty members and 8,000 students; By encouraging freedom of thought and expression, it aims to raise individuals who think creatively and critically, are open to lifelong learning, have ethical values and have a leadership spirit. University accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE); It consists of seven faculties: Agriculture and Food Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture (Maroun Semaan), Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing (Rafic Hariri) and Business Administration (Suliman S. Olayan). AUB, which became co-educational in 1922 and where 53% of the student body is made up of women, offers more than 140 programs at undergraduate, master's, doctorate of medicine (MD) and doctoral levels in English (except for the Arabic department). Additionally, "AUB Mediterraneo" in Paphos, Cyprus, an important milestone of the "Global AUB" vision and the institution's first campus outside Lebanon, became operational in Autumn 2023 as an approved branch campus.
