Notes This study examines the relationship between political authority and legitimacy in the context of Ibn Khaldun's views. In this context, umran, asabiyya, mulk, caliphate, etc., which are closely related to the concept of political authority. concepts are examined. In one sense, politics is the search for 'the best'. In a way, the contrasts between what is and what should be determine an ethical paradigm on which political philosophy is built. In this respect, politics' search for legitimacy also prioritizes an ethical justification and the relationship between politics and ethics. This phenomenon, the problem of political power and the legitimacy of politics, contains a dynamic continuity and problematic at every stage where the state is in a dynamic process. The concept of legitimacy of politics is an expression of a search for the quality of the basis of legitimacy and the criteria that do not change in the face of changes in different processes. Ibn Khaldun examines political authority in three parts and discusses their legitimacy. The first of these is "natural property", which essentially involves domination and the use of force. The second one is "political property", which includes the management of society in accordance with the requirements of rational thought in terms of achieving worldly benefits and avoiding harms. The last one is the "caliphate", which is the administration of the state in accordance with the requirements of religious thought for the benefit of this world and the hereafter. Ibn Khaldun criticizes the political authority views of Islamic philosophers.
