Notes	The treatise written in Arabic by Koca Râgıb Pasha (b. 1110/1698-99 - d. 1176/1763) on the science of aruz. Koca Râgıb Pasha says that he composed the Aruz Treatise in four parts: introduction, chapters, hatime and faslu'l-hitâb. In the introduction section, he includes concepts and explanations about aruz such as tef'ile, sebeb, vetid, fâsıla, ille, zihaf, aruz, darb, hasv, sadr. In the Babs section, 16 aruz bahris are discussed. First, the meter of the bahr, then the aruz and its babs, the zihaf and the ille are specified, respectively, and examples are given from old Arabic poetry. In the Hatime section, rhyme is defined, its types and parts are explained, and examples are given. Rhyme defects and examples of them are presented in Faslu'l-Hitab. Cevherî's-Sihâh Tâcu'l-Luğa and Sihâhu'l-Arabiyye, Sekkâkî's Miftâhu'l-Ulûm, Muhsin el-Kayseri's Şerhu Arûzi'l-Endelusî, Fîruzâbâdî's el-Kâmûsu'l-Muhît is one of the sources used by Râgıb Pasha. Pasha made references in many places, especially to Sekkâkî's work titled Miftâhu'l-Ulûma. He discussed the subjects in the order in Sekkâkî in the sections of the introduction, chapters, hatime and faslu'l-hitâb. Miftâhu'l-Ulûmile also cited the same couplets as examples for meters other than the original meter of the Aruz bahirs. He made literal quotations from Sekkâkî in most parts of his work, but unlike Sekkâkî, he followed a more summative way in discussing the subjects (Dursun 2014: 60). The work was written on 23 Safer 1159/17 March 1746.
