Back cover: This work, titled Gülcülük: Rose and Its Products, is a comparative transcription and facsimile work. By comparing the typeface and chapirograph editions of the work, the differences are shown in the footnotes of the new text. The two separate nomenclatures used in both editions were combined and transformed into the title we mentioned. Agop Zakaryan's (1860?-1908) book, which was published in 1897/98 under the name Rose and Its Products, was reproduced in Istanbul under the name Gülcülük and as a textbook by the student cooperative called Halkalı Ziraat Mekteb-i Âlîsi Talebe İktisad Company. There is also an additional section signed by Ömer Şevket in the chapirograph print. Ömer Şevket is also the calligrapher of the book. Mehmet Ekrem is the one who drew the rose pictures, which are not available in the printed version, for the chapyrograph printing. The book, which begins with a summary "Information on History" section about roses, discusses rose varieties in ten classes (simple-leaved rose, wild rose, bazulu rose, cinnamon rose, scaly-leaved rose and hundred-petaled rose [sad-berg], feathered rose, rust roses, Indian roses, summer-winter rose/yiveren). continues with the field section. The sixth of the rose varieties, the hundred-petalled rose (sad-berk rose), is processed more broadly than the other varieties (hybrids, roses with a concave center, Damascus rose, Firenx rose, May rose, musk rose). Summer-winter rose / Yediveren roses are described under three subheadings: red rose, gum or okka rose and zîbâ rose. The climate, location and soil where the rose will grow; propagation and grooming of roses; enemies of rose bushes (diseases and pests), collection of flowers; distillation, that is, obtaining rose oil and water; Topics such as its commercial value, cultivation and trade of Kizanlik rose saplings are also included in the book. Author Zakaryan is one of our treasures whose biography is unknown. This lost biography is written by Prof. at the beginning of the work. Dr. It was clarified with the article written by Ali Birinci. We should point out that the work and its author came to light through the efforts of Ali Biri. Although it cannot be considered a "critical publication" in the classical sense, this edition, which is a comparative study between printed and chapirograph editions, is the third edition of the work made in the Republic period, after the two editions in the Ottoman period. It has been 125 years since its first publication. Therefore, we are happy to bring our past knowledge to your attention and hope to encourage new studies in this field.
