Notlar About: Elegant composite volume of poetry in two main sections, the first section carrying the divan of Emir Efsahuddin Hidayetullah Bey (15th cent.), and the second section opening with an incomplete transcript of the divan of Fuzulî (d.1556) and concluding with incomplete excerpts from the divan of Nevâî. Descriptive contributions from Nick Krabbenhoeft. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 415 Origin: Both sections lack dated colophon. For opening, earlier section, decoration, hand, paper, etc. suggest 16th century ; similarly, paper, hand, etc. of final, later section suggest late 16th or early 17th century. Date in seal impression may provide very rough terminus ante quem of 1711. Accompanying materials: Conservation report with description and condition from Library Preservation and Conservation (signed by Shannon Zachary and dated 22 February 2010). Former shelfmark: "244 T. De M. [i.e. Tammaro De Marinis]" inscribed in pencil on 'title page' (p.1). Binding: Pasteboards covered in red-brown (stamped areas and spine) and black (bordering stamped areas) leathers ; Type II binding (with flap) ; likely two-piece binding (seam of overlapping flanges visible at spine) ; doublures in brown leather ; upper and lower covers block-stamped, black- and and gold-painted (large panel stamp repeated twice with central seam visible) with design of mandorla (compare Déroche class. NSd 10), pendants, upper and lower rectangular pieces with lozenges and wide border overlaid with vegetal composition filling panel ; design continues on envelope flap ; sewn in dark blue to black thread, two stations, failing in some areas ; worked chevron endbands in brown and yellow, tailband lost, losses of thread to headband with leather core exposed ; overall in poor condition with lower cover fully detached (exposing textile spine lining) , upper joint splitting, abrasion and accretions, etc. ; repairs to joints at spine and to board edges in red leather ; housed in box for protection. Support: non-European (perhaps Persian) laid paper of mainly two types, each section in a distinct main type ; main type of opening section (through p.80) with roughly 7 laid lines per cm. (vertical and fairly distinct) and grouped chain lines occasionally visible (see p.24, 30, etc), thin and transluscent though sturdy, well-burnished, dark cream in color with red-brown tinting, some borders done in silhouette (see pp.20-21, 36-37) ; final section (from p.81) mainly in a type with roughly 8 laid lines per cm. (mainly vertical but occasionally horizontal and indistinct) and possibly grouped chain lines (though quite unclear), coarse / cloudy formation, quite sturdy though transluscent, cream in color, well-burnished ; repair to opening leaf in European laid paper ; breakthrough at frames in opening section. Decoration: At opening of first section (p.2), illuminated double-page opening (ʻunwān / sarlawḥ), right-hand page with four lines written on the diagonal surrounded by a blue frame in a field of gold with floral decorations in white, blue, orange, etc. (now damaged with loss of pigment) surrounded by an elaborate border consisting of wide bands of vegetal decoration outlined defined by bands of blue and gold ; facing / left-hand page with text of written area set off by gold cloud-bands with floral accents in white, orange and light blue ; written area throughout opening section surrounded by frame of gold bands set off by white and blue fillets ; borders in silouhette painting accent two openings (see pp.20-21, 36-37) ; at close of opening section on pp.78-79, offset of a painting of figures on horseback, with renderings of horses plainly visible ; some headings and keywords of final section rubricated, otherwise without decorative elements. Script: Nastaʻlīq (talik) ; two main hands ; opening section (opening through p.80) in an elegant hand in a delicate line, spacious and characteristically serifless with gentle effect of words descending to baseline, elongation and contrasting thickness of horizontal strokes, pointing in distinct dots, point of final or free-standing nūn often assimilated with bowl ; final section (from p.84 to close of codex) in a another elegant hand in a medium line, more compactly filling the line and characteristically serifless with effect of words descending to baseline, elongation and contrasting thickness of horizontal strokes, pointing in distinct or conjoined dots, point of final nūn often seated just above or down in tall bowl with somewhat narrow opening. Layout: Distinct layout for each of the two main sections, though both written chiefly in 14 lines per page with written area divided to two columns (apart for the preface to Fuzulî's divan) ; both frame-ruled. Collation: III+1-1 [?] (6), 2 IV(22), 3 I(28), II (32), 7 IV(88), III (94), IV (102), III (108), II (112), IV (120), II (124), III (130) ; chiefly quaternions ; middle of the quire marks in the form of ۶ (i.e. numeral five in the ghubār system or "khamsah ghubārīyah") appear throughout ; oblique catchwords on the verso of each leaf ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during cataloguing. ; Title supplied by cataloguer. Ms. composite codex. Several former owners' marks on opening 'title page' (p.1) including former inventory number, statement in name of Mulla Mehmetzade Efendi [?] "... ملا محمد زاده افندى," statement in name of one Hafız Efendi "الحاجى حافظ افندى," octagonal seal impression in name of one Ahmet / Aḥmad "خالص الفؤاد درويشان [؟] احمد," another octagonal seal impression repeated twice (and twice again on opening incipit page, p.2) with "مصطفى" at center, and two effaced statements ; another effaced seal impression on the margin on p.7 ; small octagonal seal impression with "احمد" at center on incipit page of Divan-ı Fuzulî (p.84) ; ownership statement / purchase statement on p.242 (following Divan-ı Fuzulî) in name of Ali Bey b. Mahmut Pașa "قد تملك على بيك بن محمود پاشا بالاشترا غفر الله ذنوبهما" with octagonal seal impression (also appearing in margin on p.255) "توكلت على الله العلى الاعلى ١٢٢" possibly dated [1]122 [1710 or 11] ; additionaly verses glossed in margins ; marginal corrections.
