Istanbul, whose components are inevitably in constant change and transformation, is constantly being shaped together with its citizens and creating new lifestyles. "Housing" is no longer a concept that only meets people's shelter needs, but has begun to have a meaning that includes countless inputs. In this context, Istanbul is a "laboratory" for architectural education; Housing discussions in an urban area also contain very different potentials. On the other hand, it is an inevitable necessity for architectural design studios, which have a special place within the multifaceted structure of architectural education, to be developed and constructed in different methods, places, scales and contents together with the whole of education in a way that reflects the dynamics of the age. Within the scope of this declaration, it is based on the reflection of current and multi-dimensional changes and transformations in the world and in Istanbul on architectural production and education; A studio experience based on the transforming studio culture, environment, actors and practices of Architectural Design education will be conveyed. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the approaches in architectural design studios applied by the authors in different periods. The concepts of "place-context-concept" are considered as basic components in the studios. These components include the conceptualization of today's daily life and cultural activities, and especially the layered and hybrid "urban texture" and the expansions of "renewed urban life", "urban culture", "house in the city", which constantly re-creates this texture. Based on this, the process, method, content and products of the studio studies based on the concepts of "City", "place", "house" and "housing" in the architectural design studio experienced in the 7th centuries at Özyegin University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture between 2016 and 2018 will be discussed., The rapid change in social, cultural and technological developments in the contemporary and pluralistic world has also necessitated a change in the focus of architectural studies. Ultimately, it becomes essential to adjust design education accordingly in order to follow these changes. Architectural education as a whole, and particularly the architectural design studio, should be considered as sort of an initiation process where students are introduced to architectural knowledge. The design studios, which are the backbone of architectural education, should also be approached as a system of unified and complementary stages over all terms. Each term's design studio, as steps of the whole, includes content, method and the scale in order to form the whole design education. The significance of the concept of “place”, including different environmental identities, is also indisputable in this framework. In this sense, the aim of this paper is to discuss design approaches in architectural design studios applied by the authors, for the studios 401 during 2016-2018 terms at Department of Architecture Faculty of Architecture and Design, Ozyeğin University. The city and place and new ways of living, therefore urban housing concepts are considered as a main course for the design approaches held by in these studios. Conceptualization of contemporary everyday-cultural activities is primarily involved with the concepts of “city”, “new urban life”, “city culture”, and the heterogeneous “urban pattern” in its structure.
