Torturing him. And since he had the right to do that, the aspect of forgiveness and mercy prevailed, not as a matter of obligation, but rather as a matter of kindness and benevolence. He said: “And God is Forgiving” to His friends, “Merciful” to His servants, so do not hasten to supplicate for them. And when God Almighty explained the greatness of His blessings upon the believers with regard to guiding them to what is best in the matter of religion and jihad, He followed that up with what is included in the command, prohibition, encouragement, and warning, so He said, “O you who have believed, do not consume usury multiplied,” which is a weak plural. Since the plural is few and what is meant is many, he followed it with something that indicates that, which is the description by saying: {doubling} by increasing the money when the due date comes and taking the demand and allocation according to the reality if the man increases for a term and then increases the debt another increase until he takes up the debtor’s money with the nice thing. Otherwise, usury is forbidden without doubling, but rather it is one of the major sins in general. Ibn Katheer and Ibn Aamer recited with a strong ‘ayn and an alif before it, and the rest with a lightening of the ‘ayn and an alif before it. And fear God by abandoning what you have been forbidden, so that you may succeed.. {And it is He who made you successors of the earth} plural of successor, because Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, is the Seal of the Prophets, so his nation succeeded all other nations, or some of them succeeded others in it, or they are successors of God Almighty in His land, which they own and dispose of it {And He raised some of you above others in degrees} in honor and provision {that He may test you} that is, that He may test you {in what He has given you} that is, He has given you that He may manifest. The obedient among you and the disobedient among you.
