Notes Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, all his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment. As for what follows: This is the sufficiency of what is found in working with the quarter of the arches, including what is necessary in the work of the night and the day, which I collected from the mouths of the great sheikhs from the books of the good scholars, and this is the matter of writing in these eras, and if you come across something that contradicts the clear well-known, do not rush to reject it, for perhaps it is the correct truth, and God is the one who seeks help, and upon Him we can rely, and it is arranged in two introductions and twenty chapters. The first premise: In explaining what is drawn on the face of the quarter, the center is the hole through which the string makes the arc of elevation. It is the arc surrounding the quarter, divided by equal parts, with their numbers written as a parcel from the right to the left and vice versa from the left to the right. The right of the arc is what is in line with the right of the viewer in the quadrant if he places it in his hands so that the circumference is between it and the center and its left in contrast. The line of east and west is the line emerging from the center to the first arc of elevation. The half-day line is the line emerging from the center to the end of the arc of elevation. The first to its right and its last to its left is the arc of the shadow. The alignment parallel to the arc of elevation and its sections are not equal, but rather offset. If the offset is towards the line of east and west, then it is the extended shadow.... Chapter Twenty: On Knowing the Straightness and Crookedness of the Quarter. Know that the point of intersection must be the orbit of Aries and Libra with the midday line on an arcade equal to the full width of the quarter, and the distance of the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer, each of them, from that point on the midday line must be equal to the total inclination from the number of arcades, which is the solution, even if what occurs between those The point and the Tropic of Capricorn from the midday line are greater in magnitude than what occurs between it and the Tropic of Cancer from the midday line as well, as has been proven in the science of flattening. The intersection of the horizon, the line of the east and west, the tropic of Aries, Libra, and the first zenith must also be on one point. The distance of the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer, each of them, from the point of east and west on the horizon must also be equal to the breadth of the bright of the head of Cancer in that width of the number of azimuths, even if what occurs between that point and the Tropic of Capricorn from the horizon is greater in magnitude than what is between that point and the Tropic of Cancer from the horizon, and it must also be The intersection of the Tropic of Capricorn with the midday line will be on an equal arc, up to the height of Capricorn in the width of a quarter, as well as the Tropic of Cancer. The string must also fall on the height of the shadow if it is placed on the side of the arc of elevation. These are the well-known tests. The poor servant, to the mercy of his mighty master, Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Tarsusi al-Hanafi, may God Almighty treat them both with His clear and hidden kindness. This is the last thing we wanted to mention in these papers, and we did not address the evidence and proofs, lest it lead to redundancy. And our companions became bored and we left out things of our deeds...
