| Sample Text | Rizkallah Hassoun (1825-1880), like many of his contemporaries, attempted to translate classical literary works into modern Arabic. In his work, I Feel Poetry, Rizkallah Hassoun chooses to rephrase selected texts from the Old Testament in an accessible poetic language. The Book of Job is considered one of the most prominent works in this collection because, as the author says in his introduction, it is considered one of the effects of world literature, like the works of Homer and Shakespeare. Hassoun's translation of the story of Job into Arabic poetry is not intended to be a devotional reading of the Bible, but rather to highlight the richness and adaptability of the Arabic language. |
