In the Arabic version of this work, the molla ʿIsam ed-Din Ahmed ibn Moustafa, better known under the name of Tashkeupruzade (d. 1554), studied approximately one hundred and fifty scientific doctrines, in two books, the first dealing with the idiosyncrasies and the excellence of science, the second, with the enumeration of the sciences. This translation was executed in 1006 AH (1598) by Tashkeupruzade's son, the molla Kemal ad-Din Mohammed (d. 1622), who made considerable additions to the Mauzouʿat el-ʿouloum, while subjecting it to certain alterations; it is dedicated to Sultan Ahmed I, son of Mohammed III. The preface to the Miftah el-saʿadet (folios 2 verso-6 recto) is a modern addition, the book beginning without introduction with the first prolegomena, in which the excellence of science and study is spoken of..
