Notes
A good modern copy, the heads of the poverty are in red, the copy has been matched and corrected, and some of the footnotes have comments and corrections. The title page appears with an ownership record in the name of the above-mentioned copyist, and a mention of the book of Umdat al-Ahkam was copied from the original copy. The copyist indicated on the title page that he copied this copy of his from an old copy in the library of Sheikh al-Islam Ahmad Arif Hikmat in Medina under No. 30 of Art of Hadith. He indicated that the copy is undated, but its handwriting indicates that it is from Ninth-century manuscripts, the first of which is a translation of the author, and on the last page of the copy appears a restriction for the copyist that reads: “I learned that there was a copy of these jokes with His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Salih Al-Bassam, so I borrowed them from him to read them on this copy of mine. I read it to His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Yahya Al-Muallami Al-Yamani, and he had in his hand the aforementioned copy of Al-Bassam. We proved what was correct or omitted from our copy in it. We also proved the same in the margin of Al-Bassam’s copy. We also sometimes reviewed some language books. Al-Umdah and its explanation by Ibn Daqiq Al-Eid to verify the authenticity of some of the phrases that did not appear to us, and that was completed on the night of Tuesday the eleventh of the blessed Ramadan in the year 1379. What remained of Al-Bassam’s copy was torn out, and it is hoped that we will obtain the rest of it to complete the interview and correction.
