Notes The detailed title of the work, given to it by the author-compiler himself, is as follows: “The pen of Musa Bigiyev selectively translated about one thousand three hundred scientific instructions from the outstanding work of the philosopher, the great Imam Abu Al-Ala Al-Maarri, entitled “Al-Luzumiyat.” The title "Al-Luzumiyat" is an abbreviation of the full title of the poem "al-Luzumiyat ma la yalzam" ("The Obligation of the Optional"), written by the medieval Arab poet and philosopher Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri (m. 973-1057/58). Musa Bigiev describes this work as a step towards the revival of the Arabic language, by publishing translations of the best examples of Arabic poetry with the goal of introducing Russian Muslims to their wisdom, philosophical ideas, morality, valor and free-thinking. The translation published by Musa Bigiyev presents the beits of Al-Maarri’s poem in alphabetical order up to the letter “dal”. The most important of them are provided with comments and explanations by Musa Bigiev, which allow you to get acquainted with the personal ideas and worldview of this outstanding Tatar religious thinker and public figure. This work by Musa Bigiev has not been republished since the first edition. (Ph.D. A.G. Khairutdinov)
