Science high schools are secondary education institutions established in our country to identify students who are successful in science and mathematics and to enable them to grow up as scientists. In these schools, students may pay less attention to some social field courses. One of these courses is the Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge (DKAB) course. At this point, it is extremely important for a student-centered education to determine how the course is perceived by the students and what their expectations are from the course, and then to reveal how a more interesting, popular, expectations-oriented and need-oriented course can be developed accordingly. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the DKAB course from the perspective of science high school students. In line with this purpose, the problem statement of the study was determined as follows: What are the perceptions and expectations of science high school students regarding the DKAB course? Case study, one of the qualitative research designs, was preferred in the study, and the data was obtained through a semi-structured interview form. The study group of the research is 12 12th grade students of Ünye Science High School in Ünye district of Ordu province. The data was collected in the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year and analyzed with content analysis. At the end of the study, it was determined that half of the science high school students who constituted the research group had positive perceptions about the DKAB course, while the other half had negative perceptions. Similarly, it was revealed that half of the participants were of the opinion that the course met their expectations, two participants were of the opinion that it did not meet their expectations, and three participants were of the opinion that it partially met their expectations. While positive perceptions about the course are in terms of its importance, usefulness and necessity, negative perceptions are; It should be based on memorization and conceptual emphasis, surah memorization should not be focused on interpretation and meaning, similar subjects should be covered every year, the course should be optional, it should cover different subjects and religions, and it should be a more objective, intriguing and popular course. In the research, some science high school students are male and female according to the Quran, Hz. Some issues related to the life of the Prophet, Hz. He stated that they were curious and questioned some issues such as Ayşe's marriage age, wars and conflicts in the Islamic world today, metaphysical issues, and the relationship between religion and science, but such topics were either not included in the DKAB course or were very limited. It has been concluded that science high school students are confused about controversial issues related to religion, have difficulty in understanding and finding applicable events in Islamic history from today's perspective as a young person in our age, expect to base religious issues on reason and an explanation, and generally want to see such issues in the DKAB course. The most intense expectation of half of the participants from the DKAB course is to learn about other religions and religious views. In this context, participants who have a negative perception of the course expect the course to encompass not only Islam but also other religions. It has been observed that the perceptions of all science high school students, who have positive or negative perceptions towards the course, towards the DKAB course are not completely rejectionist/reactive or positive. In this context, participants whose perceptions of the course were negative found some aspects of the course positive; It has been determined that students whose general perception of the course is positive also emphasize some of the shortcomings of the course and aspects that need improvement. Therefore, it seems possible to offer a course that appeals to the target audience more effectively by developing the course in line with the opinions and expectations of the students. In this regard, some suggestions were made in the study for the development of DKAB courses in line with the opinions of science high school students.
