Notes
Book covers are an important tool to guide the reader and get them to think in a certain direction. The message intended to be conveyed on book covers, which provide information about the content of the book, reflect its main theme and establish the first communication between the reader and the text, is conveyed through visual elements and text arrangements. In addition to increasing the awareness and sales of the book, ideological purposes are also a factor in these choices, and many actors involved in the translation action shape this process with their conscious or unconscious preferences. The aim of this study is to discuss the changes in front covers, which are considered a form of paratext in translation, on the basis of the concept of "censorship". Within the scope of the study, the front covers of a total of 11 editions published at home and abroad of the book Gray Wolf, which is about the life and military achievements of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and was censored by the government officials of the period in the first year of its publication, will be examined. The concept will be discussed on the basis of the new censorship approach based on the cooperation of intermediaries, without excluding the traditional centralist approach, in line with the ideas of Michael Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu, which take the understanding of censorship to a new dimension. Concepts such as "power", "discourse" and "self-censorship" will be the frequent points of the study.
