More than half a century has passed since the first wave of guest worker immigration to Germany, and the Muslim population in the country has now expanded into four separate generations. It is seen that the number of Muslim students attending German public schools has varied between 700 and 900 thousand since the beginning of the 2000s. In the face of this socio-demographic reality and the acceptance that Islam has ceased to be the "foreign religion of Turkish immigrants" in Germany and has become a part of the society, it is now being discussed how this course can be given rather than the necessity of an Islamic religion course for Muslim students. When we look at the issue a little more closely, we see that the issue of Islamic religious education in Germany is intertwined with multifaceted problems; It is seen that this issue has continued to constitute one of the most prominent agendas of both the academic community, politics and the public for many years. The aim of this article is to discuss the background of some controversial basic issues in the formation process of the Islamic religious education in Germany. These topics are; It will be examined under the headings of the addressee religious community, course content, course language and course teacher. In the study, it has been revealed that although there have been some developments in Germany towards a regular Islamic religious education in accordance with the constitution, there are still many problems. Some of the prominent ones are; There is still no single Muslim religious community that will assume the authority to conduct the course, and course implementation is mostly limited to a certain date with temporary interim solutions; Whether the course content has an aspect that conflicts with the constitution and to what extent it takes into account the plurality within Islam; In which language, Arabic, Turkish or German, Islamic religious concepts will be used; It focuses on how long it will take to fill the increasing teacher shortage in the field, and whether Islamic religious course teachers will receive a license to teach the course, and if so, who will give them this authority.
