Notes The problem of mental existence is a multidimensional issue that is related to many issues with its ontological and epistemological aspects. Both philosophers and theologians have addressed the problem from different aspects and discussed it among themselves. These discussions have led to the emergence of some evidence and criticism regarding mental existence in terms of acceptance and rejection. Among these discussions, which are associated with different topics, the use of information about non-existent objects in proving mental existence has also made it possible to locate the information about non-existent objects. Because the non-existent being the subject of knowledge is an issue that is generally agreed upon by the theologians, except for some exceptions. It is an issue accepted by scholars that non-existent things, whether possible or non-existent, can be known, especially in the process that comes with the subject of theology being devoted to the known. Therefore, the issue of where the knowledge about it is located has emerged as an extension of the mental existence discussions. In this context, both theologians and philosophers, in terms of the theories of knowledge they adopted, have questioned where the epistemological and ontological knowledge of these concepts, such as the nonexistent, that do not exist in the objective world but can be intelligible, made judgments about, or imagined, is located, and have tried to determine the location of this knowledge. As a result of this effort, it has been seen that the location of information about the non-existent is explained in two ways: mind and external. In response to the theologians who claim that the place of knowledge about the non-existent is the mind because it does not have an objective equivalent, it has been claimed that the place of this knowledge is not the mind but the external world. There was no consensus among those who claimed that the knowledge about him was external; some claimed that this knowledge was in Plato's ideas and some claimed that it was in the active mind. There has been no conflict between those who attribute the place of knowledge about non-existent existence to the mind. Based on this, in this study, the place of knowledge about the non-existent has been tried to be determined in terms of theology of the later period, based on the evidence put forward to prove mental existence and the criticisms towards these evidence. Within the framework of these discussions, the parties are stated and the criticisms of the opponents towards each other are also included. Because the nature of these criticisms is important in terms of revealing the thoughts of those who oppose the place of knowledge about the non-existent. The scope of the study is limited to Râzî and some later theologians of the later period, based on the fact that the discussions on mental existence were introduced as an independent title by Fakhr al-Dîn al-Râzî. Accordingly, in the study, the basic theological texts that had high representative power and gained fame, and the prominent commentaries written on these basic texts, which included the issue in question during the later period, were preferred.
