Notes In this study, the views of the Vahdet-i Şühud and Vahdet-i Vücud schools on creation from nothing were compared and their compatibility with the Ahl al-Sunnah was examined. Since the debate is shaped by the decision of whether "nothing" should be called a thing or not, this issue has also been investigated. Views on the return of non-existence to existence, also known as "mental proof", have been compared, and views on whether the universe is ancient or hadith have been discussed. It has been observed that both schools of Sufism see the creation of the "non-existent" as a manifestation of God's desire to introduce himself and believe that this occurs not in the personal position but in the adjective level. While the ancient Greek philosophers rejected creation from nothing, Islam accepted the interpretations, but they did not see nothingness as nothingness. Mu'tazilites also claimed that the universe was eternal because they believed that the universe was created from nothingness to which thinghood could be attributed. Ahl al-Sunnah found Allah's creation from nothing more consistent as it expresses His absolute power. The school of Vahdet-i shühut has adopted a view parallel to the Ahl as-Sunnah, believing that non-existence turns into a shadow but real existence at the level of delusion. However, the school of unity of existence has accepted non-existence as fixed essences in divine knowledge. With this, they displayed a stance close to the Mu'tazilites by not accepting creation from nothing, in the sense of nothingness.
