In the history of Islamic education, madrasahs have played important roles and made significant contributions to the geographies in which they operate. Although many madrasahs in Anatolia were closed by the Unification of Education Law adopted in 1924, they continued their existence in the East and Southeast and partly in the Black Sea. Especially in the East and Southeast, the madrasahs in question continue their activities as unofficial educational institutions within a certain framework of functioning. This article discusses the institutional structure and functioning of Eastern and Southeastern madrasahs through the example of Mardin. In this context, structured and semi-structured interviews were conducted with madrasah educators in the madrasahs in Mardin, and surveys were administered to the students; The obtained data were analyzed.
