Notes The aim of this study is to determine how teachers, who are affected by negative conditions such as stress, fatigue and monotony in their work lives, spend their free time and the effect of the activities they participate in on their happiness in life and work performance. For this purpose, 1604 teachers working in Karesi and Altıeylül districts of Balıkesir province constitute the population of the study. According to the sampling calculation (0.05 margin of error), conducting a survey with 310 teachers was deemed sufficient. In the study, a survey was applied to 450 teachers and 400 surveys were evaluated. In collecting data in the study, the Recreational activities participation form, the Oxford Happiness Survey to measure the life happiness of the participants, and the scale developed by LIT (Lamar Institute of Technology, 2009) for performance were used. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, it was determined that teachers participated more in activities such as video games, chess, watching television, surfing the internet, board and card games, magazines and newspapers, and club meetings in the other activities category. When the relationship between recreational activities and life happiness was examined, it was determined that there was a weak positive relationship, and life happiness affected work performance.
