The view of humanity in religious education in our country is shaped by approaches that base their theology on Islam and their philosophy on the modern understanding of education with a progressive-humanist line. Therefore, the theoretical background of human ontology in religious education is the human imagination of Islamic thought and the progressive-humanist tradition. On the basis of Islamic thought, it is seen that the concept of a free and responsible human being, in proportion to his partial will, is placed at the center of the universe of existence. In the modern education system, which is carried out on the axis of the progressive-humanist paradigm, the view on human beings is to see the individual's self-knowledge and self-realization as the main goal, centering his interests, needs and experiences. In this case, it can be said that religious education's view of humanity is based on an eclectic ontology. Although the efforts of Islamic thought and today's modern education approach to understand and recognize people and to humanize education are seen as a great accumulation of knowledge, man's awareness of his own existence appears as the shortcomings of both approaches. In this case, the question of how to ensure awareness of human existence in religious education and on what basis its basic sources, references and view of humanity will be built is a fundamental problem for the ontology of religious education. The aim of the research is to examine the view of human ontology in religious education, based on the shortcomings of Islamic thought and the modern understanding of education, and to try to shape it on the basis of the existential processes that lead to the concrete human understanding of Kierkegaard, who laid the foundations of existentialism. The study also tried to find the answer to what kind of light religious education would shed on a person's awareness of his/her existence as an individual. As a result of the study, it has been seen that in religious education, it is necessary to create human ontology not on a horizontal and individual level, but on a vertical and metaphysical basis. Achieving this in religious education will be possible by satisfying the mind and heart of the individual, ensuring that what is taught has an equivalent in life, and creating an understanding of subjective and inner religiosity.
