Notes	Modernization, one of the important subjects of sociology and sociology of religion, has not only affected lifestyles but also led to some mentality changes in the ways of understanding and interpreting religion. As a result of this change in mentality, the individual was defined as an "actor" in which his mind was glorified and the importance of his will was emphasized, and as a requirement of this role, he aimed to reveal the modern interpretation of religion against traditional religious understandings. During the Tanzimat period, when the first modernization efforts were seen in all institutional areas in Türkiye, the Ottoman Empire felt the need to renew its institutional structures by taking Western science and technology as an example as a solution to the military failures, and this paved the way for modern culture to gain a place in Ottoman society. Education has played an important role in the transmission of modern culture in terms of providing both a new world view and individual attitude. The conservative group, which adopted modern values during the Tanzimat period, subjected the traditional understanding of the basic principles of Islam, such as belief and worship, to various criticisms, and tried to put forward new forms of interpretation compatible with modern values instead of the rejected traditional understanding of religion. This attitude, which is considered as religious individualization, has given rise to a type of intellectual called "New Conservative Intellectual".
