Notes The issue of whether the modality of the universal proposition can be characterized as necessary, dāʾimī or other modalities is an important topic of discussion in Islamic logic literature. The discussion started with a counter-claim about the modality of the universal proposition in the modal logic system put forward by Avicenna. The counter-claim put forward by Ibn Sīnā gained the form of evidence for the first time with Faḫruddīn er-Rāzī. Naṣīruddīn eṭ-Ṭūsī proved the claim differently than ar-Rāzī, while al-Ḫūnecī mentioned the counter-claim but did not state his evidence and objection. Ibn Sīnā objected to the counter-claim by counter-example, and ar-Rāzī objected by division, and aṭ-Ṭūsī expanded the scope of the middle term of the counter-evidence he put forward in his objection. While the objections of Ibn Sīnā and ar-Rāzī see other modalities other than the necessary modality for the modality of the universal proposition as possible, aṭ-Ṭūsī's objection seems to accept the counterclaim. Counter-claims regarding the modality of the universal proposition, their evidence and objections to them were brought to the agenda again in the 18th century Ottoman scientific field by Muḥammed al-Āmidī in the treatise named Refʿu'l- Ḥicāb ʿan Cemīʿi'l-Muveccehāt. It is a very noteworthy treatise because it carries a topic that was discussed in the classical period to the post-classical period and makes a choice. In the article, first the background of the debate in question in the Islamic logic literature is summarized, then al-Āmidī's relevant treatise is analyzed and different evidence is presented, and finally the critical Arabic text of the treatise is presented.
