Notes El-İstî‘âb fî ma‘rifeti’lashâb, written by İbn Abdülber en-Nemerî el-Kurtubi (d. 463 / 1071), is a very voluminous work containing the biographies of the companions. This work, which is considered to be one of the first biographies of the Companions that has survived to the present day, was written in Arabic in the mid-10th century AD. According to our current knowledge, the first translation of the work into Turkish was started by Mustafa Sâfî Efendi at the beginning of the 17th century upon the request of Sultan Ahmed I, but the translation was left unfinished after the translator passed away. Taşköprîzâde Kemâleddin Mehmed Efendi wanted to complete the translation, which Mustafa Sâfî started to prepare according to the Arabic alphabet and brought it down to the letter ħa "خ", but he could only bring it down to half of the letter ra "ر". In this article, the manuscript copy of the Translation of el-İstî‘âb fî Ma‘rifeti’l-Ashâb, located in Nuruosmaniye Library number 723, will be introduced and the index of the names of the companions included in it will be presented. Thus, it is aimed to reveal the content and formal features of the first and only Istî'âb translation in Turkish and to provide researchers with information about the biographies of the companions included in it.
