Notes
Turks became Muslims in large numbers in the 10th century and made the spread of Islam in Central Asia their aim. The Turks, who entered Anatolia in the 11th century, Turkified and Islamized it with their administration based on tolerance towards different beliefs. While Turks were structured with the belief and moral system of Islam from the moment they became Muslims, they also continued to live their old culture that was not contrary to this religion. Turks becoming Muslims has different characteristics than Arabs and Persians becoming Muslims and their contributions to Islamic civilization. During the Umayyad period, which came after the Rashid Caliphs period, Arab nationalism was intense. Persians, who became Muslims from the very beginning, did not abandon many beliefs from their old religion, Zoroastrianism, while entering the new religion. These two civilizations were not as intertwined with different beliefs and cultures as the Turks. The Turks, who entered the circle of Islamic civilization, largely abandoned their old beliefs and entered the new religion, and they chose it as their main goal to be the flag bearer of it for nearly 10 centuries and to spread it over a wide area. This situation, which lasted until the 17th century, decreased and continued until the 20th century. This situation ended with the Armistice of Mudros signed on October 30, 1918, and the Islamic civilization was deprived of a central power that could serve as its flag bearer.
