Notes Commentary by Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Qāsim al-Mutaṭabib al-Kīlānī (Aḥmad ibn Muhammad ibn Qasim al-Muḥammad al-Kilani, fl. ca 1345, see f. 1v, line 14) on the Aphorisms (Book of Chapters) of Hippocrates (Hippocrates, d. ca 370 BC). The text is dedicated to the Qipchaq Maḥmūd Jalāl al-Dīn Jānī Beg Khān (Maḥmūd Jalāl al-Dīn Jānī Beg Khān (Maḥmūd Jalāl al-Dīn, line 1). The manuscript is defective at beginning and end, finishing abruptly during the commentary on Book One, Aphorism 5 (cf. ed. Tytler, 1832, p. 3). Begins (f. 1r, lines 1-2, defective at beginning): Mahmoud Sultan Jalal of the world and religion Jani Bey Khan May God make him happy in both worlds, support him, and immortalize the majesty of his kingdoms Ends (f. 225v, lines 11-14, defective at end): ...because the gentle measure is understanding What decomposes them does not leave behind what it should and highlights the materials that are immersed in moisture Food appears in the body because (?) the body and fire are dissolved in it and the moisture it needs is dissolved There is no crime in which a mistake in the gentle management of the healthy and the sick is more harmful and greater
