Notes Autograph copy of a manual on dream interpretation by Abū Muḥammad ʻAbd Allāh ibn ʻAlī ibn ʻUmar ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī al-Baṣrī al-Maṣrī (Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Ali bin Omar bin Muhammad bin Ali Al-Basri Al-Masry), known as Ibn Jaydān (Ibn Jaydan, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , ff. 260r, lines 7-9 and 260v, lines 5-6, transcribed below). This is not the same text as the Full Moon on the Science of Dream Interpretation ( al-Badr al-munīr f'ī ʻilm al-taʻbīr ) by Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn ʻAbd al-Raḥmān al-Maqdisī (Shihāb al-Dīn Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Maqdisī, d. 1297 or 1298), known as al-Shihāb al-ʻĀbir ibn Surūr (Al-Shihāb al-‘Ābir ibn Surūr; see Ibn Surūr, Qawāʼid tafsīr al-aḥlām al-musammá "al-Badr al-munīr f'ī ʻilm al-taʻbīr" wa-sharḥuh , ed. by Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad Jumʻah). The work is divided into an introduction in eight parts, three books subdivided into chapters then parts, sections, classes and examples, followed by a conclusion in three sections. A detailed table of contents (statement) listing the titles of all these divisions and the folios on which they begin is found on ff. 9r-15v. Ibn Jaydān dedicates the work to the young Mamluk prince 'ʿImād al-Dīn Ismāʿīl, scion of ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ʿAlī the late ruler' (Imad al-Din Ismail, son of Aladdin Ali al-Malik the Martyr, f. 6v, lines 12-13), son of the reigning sultan al-Malik al-Nāṣir Muḥammad ibn Qalāwūn (King Al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun, reg. 1293-1341 with gaps), who went on to reign as Sultan al-Malik al-Ṣāliḥ ʿImād al-Dīn Ismāʿīl (King Al-Salih Imad al-Din Ismail, b. 1326, reg. 1342-5). ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ʿAlī was ʿImād al-Dīn Ismāʿīl's half-brother, the heir to the throne al-Malik al-Manṣūr ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ʿAlī (King Al-Mansur Aladdin Ali, d. 1310), who died in his youth at the age of seven. Ibn Jaydān names four of his other works on the same subject: (1) an abridgement composed in 716/1316-7 at Hamadhān of the Book of The Elixir on the Science of Dreams (So I summarized a book I called Elixir on the Science of Dreams, f. 3v, lines 1-3); (2) an unnamed didactic poem (Arjoza) that he says he is in the process of composing (f. 3v, lines 3-4); (3) an abridgement (summary) of that poem or perhaps of the Badr al-munīr it called the Book of Glad Tidings Concerning The Science of Dream Interpretation (The Book of Evangelism in the Science of Expression) dedicated to al-Malik al-Nāṣir Muḥammad ibn Qalāwūn (f. 3v, lines 5-7); (4) and a didactic poem named after the same sultan (The Arjoza in His Name, f. 3v, lines 7-8). An illuminated patron statement (f. 1ar) in Mamluk style indicates that the copy was made for the treasury of an unnamed sultan, doubtless the reigning sultan al-Malik al-Nāṣir Muḥammad ibn Qalāwūn (see above). The patron statement on f. 1ar reads as follows: Drawing from the High Treasury Mawlawiyya Sultaniya Saidia is the best God and called her Muhammad and his family The pure ones The copy was completed by the text's author at the end of Wednesday 2 Rabīʻ II 727/25 February 1327 (see f. 2v, lines 4-6 and colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 260r, lines 4-7, transcribed below). Beginnings (f. 1av, lines 2-7): Praise be to God, whose ancient qualities are free from conditioning Discernment and resemblance to the newly created attributes is paved Simple land on the flow of water and fixed by mountains High-rise buildings and decorated with various types of animals and other things Plant varieties lift the dome of the sky into the air Without intention, it has comments... Ends (ff. 259v, line 7-260r, line 3): He trampled some of its poplars, and some of its servants went around seeking him A great king and the descent of the Houris upon the earth is a temptation for the dreamer Like Harb and others. Likewise, the pilgrims saw two mermaids coming One of them was towards him, and the other was shown and caught up with him The temptation of Ibn Al-Ash'ath, but he did not realize the temptation of Ibn Al-Muhallab Ibn Sirin expressed it to him by seeing Ridwan Nimah Pleasure from the dreamer’s property means throwing Paradise into Hell, selling a garden Badr Al-Munir's book has been completed With the grace of God and the happiness of the Sultan God immortalized the days of his government and illuminated existence With the light of his joy in Muhammad, his family, and his family Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 260r, line 4-260v, line 7): The book was completed, written, edited, and completed The last of the day on Wednesday is the two nights of Rabi' al-Akhir In the year seven hundred and twenty-seven By the hand of its poor author, to God, its writer and compiler Abdullah bin Ali bin Omar bin Muhammad bin Ali Al-Basri, born [Al-Masry]y Muhtada, known as Ibn Jaidan, Al-Ma’bar Khuwaydim Ahl Praise be to God alone, and may God’s prayers and peace be upon him Our Master Muhammad the Prophet and his pure family This book [...] is a question and its answer [...] in many faces and every dot is red [...] or more, it is a question, as well as the answer and a number [...] the plural of it blackens and whitens the problem [...] the problem [...] by its jeweler, Abu Muhammad Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Basri, born Al-Masri, is a Muhtahid On the aforementioned date
