Notes
Persian work in the form of shahname, which Şehdî started to write but could not complete due to his death. There is no detailed information about the work whose copies cannot be identified. Judging by the rhyming of the couplets that the sources stated that they quoted from the beginning of the work and the title that Sehî wrote on the sample couplets (İpekten et al. 2017: 85), the text was written in mesnevi verse form. According to some sources, Şehdî, who knew Persian well, started writing Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmân in Persian in the Şeh-nâme vezn, by the order of Fatih Sultan Mehmed (İpekten et al. 2017: 85) and on his behalf (İpekten et al. 2017: 85; Kılıç 2018: 611). All sources agree that the poet could not complete his work due to his death, but there are different opinions about the number of couplets. As a matter of fact, Gelibolulu Mustafâ Âlî (İsen 2014: 138-139), Âşık Çelebi (Kılıç 2018: 611), Hasan Çelebi (Sungurhan 2017b: 480) and Beyânî (Sungurhan 2017a: 103) compiled four thousand couplets of the poet's masnavi. While they stated that he could write, only Sehî (İpekten et al. 2017: 85) recorded that he wrote more than ten thousand couplets. Some sources are of the opinion that Ârifî Fethullâh Çelebi (d. 966/1558-59)'s work called Şehnâme-i Âl-i Osmâna is the continuation of Şehdî's unfinished masnavi (Afyoncu 2003: 111). Some on Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmâna Mustafâ Âlî from Gallipoli, who made evaluations, stated that his inexperience was revealed by some unheard of expressions he used while trying to create a Persian tone, and criticized the poet's style in the text, but stated that it was praiseworthy for an Anatolian poet to produce such a long work in Persian. He also stated that he repeated the word "Hudâvend" so much that the name of the work should be Hudâvend-nâme rather than Şeh-nâme (İsen 2014: 138-139). Thus, like other sources, he also emphasized that the other name of the work is Şeh-nâme. Âşık Çelebi also stated that he found Şehdî successful in writing Persian poetry, even though he was an Anatolian poet (Kılıç 2018: 611). For the poet's biography, see.
