Notes
It is Yâ'kûb Afvî's treatise on Imam-ı Azam and his sect. The name of the work written in Arabic means a short, concise explanation about the sect of Abu Hanifa. Its writing was finished on 2 Jamâziyalevvel 1148 (20 September 1735). The only accessible copy of the treatise is in the Hüdaî Efendi collection of H. Selimağa Library, between pages 49b-51b of the magazine with inventory number 392/3. Its copyist is Hasan Efendizâde Mehmed Azîz, one of the former judges of Galata who was also a judge in Plovdiv. The date of copying is 17 Safar 1149 (June 27, 1736). Sheikh Afvî wrote this treatise for his brethren who wanted information from him about Abu Hanifa and his sect. Hulâsatü'l-beyân consists of two chapters and an epigraph. Imam Abu Hanifa's understanding of fiqh, his sect and the reason why he was preferred to other sects are the subject of the first chapter. According to the author, one of the qualities that makes Abu Hanifa superior in this science is that he was born in the period of the Companions and studied fiqh in the period of the Tabi'in. He debated with the natural people such as Şâbî, Tâvus and Ata. Imam Abu Hanifa was the first to compile fiqh and write a book on this subject. According to rumor, he had 400 students. These are scholars in the fields of hadith, sirah, Arabic language and accounting sciences as well as fiqh. Abu Hanife was the first to write a work about Feraiz. In this section, the author occasionally compared Abu Hanifa and Imam Shafi. The second chapter is about Abu Hanifa's brief biography and some of his legends. Sheikh Afvî describes his perfection in terms of knowledge and morality, the number of his students, and the number of people who follow his sect. He evaluated it as the acceptance of Ali's prayer. Because when Abu Hanifa was a child, his father Thabit Hz. He visited Ali. Imam Ali also prayed for his offspring to be fruitful. The author quotes the complimentary words of Abu Hanifa's contemporaries, scholars and ascetics, about him. The emphasis here is on his life of worship and ascetic living, as well as his knowledge. Among his students was Ibrahim b. Edhem, Fudayl b. There are also famous Sufis like Iyâz. The hatime section of the work is about the degrees of mujtahids according to their ability to deduce rulings from religious evidence. Those at the first level are mujtahids in sharia. The four sect imams and the fuqaha who follow their path and determine the principles are at this level. Apart from this first one, the author mentioned six more categories.
