Notes
The history book written by Kadı Ahmed by translating the information from some Arabic sources into Persian. Today, the only copy is in Suleymaniye Library, Fatih, no. He wrote his work, which was found in 4518, in Niğde, at the lodge of Nizâmeddîn Ahmed bin Alî, in 733/1333. Although the names with which the book was presented were deliberately omitted in this unique copy, which was copied by Yûsuf bin Bencâr bin Alparslan in Aksaray in 741/1340, it is understood from the available references and adjectives that the work was dedicated to the Ilkhanid sultan Ebû Sa'îd Bahadır Han and his vizier Gıyâseddîn. Kadi Ahmed, who considered the "sultan of sciences" and others as "re'aya" and accepted history as "the most honorable and most eloquent of sciences", consulted his master Şemseddin and devoted himself to studying the science of history, which had lost its reputation in his time. He decided to write a history book based on the guidance of God Almighty and the consultations he had made, and included the news of the people who had come and gone and the news of Hz. Like Muhammad's style, he tried to write his work with the style of brevity and the art of uniqueness, in short parts in accordance with the accent of ihtisar, in a clear and distinct style, by gathering them one after another (iltikadî) and in harmony with each other (telfîkî). Kadı Ahmed studied history, literature, tafsir, hadith, He divided this work, which he created by translating into Persian the information in various books written in Arabic on various fields such as theology, fiqh, mysticism and geography, into five sections. He started the work with an introduction in Arabic (1b-2a) and a more extensive introduction in Persian (2b-9a). The author stated that the first three chapters of the work, which are about the history of the prophets (9a-71b), the history of Islam (72a-156a), physical and heavenly geography, and the apocalypse and the afterlife (157b-198b), are actually connected to each other and form a whole in the form of past-present-future. He said that the last two chapters, which include topics on Muhammad's vision, schema, morality and virtue (201b-256a) and theology (257b-298a), are in a way an addendum to the first three chapters. Mehmed Fuad Köprülü (1943), Mehmet Altay Köymen (1993) and A.C.S. A doctoral thesis was prepared on the work introduced and evaluated by Peacock (2004) (Ertuğrul 2009) and this thesis was later published (Ertuğrul 2015).
