Notes
A general history book written by Cenâbî Mustafa Efendi, who wrote various works in the field of literature and Islamic religion, especially in the discipline of history. Cenâbî's most important work is el-Aylemü'z-Zâhir fî Ahvâli'l-Evâ'il ve'l-Evâhir. This work, which is famous with the name Cenâbî History, includes el-Hâlilü'l-Vasît ve'l-῾Aylemü'z-Zâhirü'l-Muhît, el-Bahr, Bahr-i Zehhâr, It is also known as Bahr-i Aylem, Târîh-i Hüseynî, Târîh-i Cenâbî and Târîhu'l-Cenâbî. History of Cenâbî is the first, most comprehensive, systematic and important historical work written by Ottoman historians (Canatar 1993a: 52). Starting from the creation of the first human being. The History of Heaven, in which the states and tribes that existed until 996/1587-1588 are described chronologically, consists of an introduction and eighty-six chapters. In these sections, "History of the Prophets", "Pre-Islamic states and tribes", "The era of the Prophet and the Rightly Guided Caliphs", "Umayyads of Damascus and Andalusia", "Abbasids", "Idrisids", "Fatimids", "Ayyubids", "Ghaznavids", Many states and tribes such as "Seljuks", "Karamanoğulları" and "Ottomans" were introduced independently. The most voluminous section of the work is devoted to Ottoman history (Kesik 1994: XV-XVIII). While Mehmet Canatar points out the copyright date of the work as 996/1587-1588, he states that Cenâbî may have completed this work in more than twenty-five years, while he was working in Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne and Aleppo (1993a: 54). Cenâbî publicly mentioned many works and authors that he used as sources, and also included the information he acquired and the events of which he was the hero. gave. Believing that the information in the sources was correct, he quoted this information and increased the power of his words by quoting the verses. Cenâbî sometimes expressed his personal opinions about the events and made negative criticisms. In the History of Cenâbî, which also includes Hâl translations, it is seen that the classical Arabic historiography tradition continues. As an element of this tradition, biographies of the prominent figures of the period were included at the end of each ruler's reign. Cenâbî, who wrote his work in a very simple and understandable language, included both his own poems and selections from other poems in the text. Cenâbî History, in which information is given by analysis and criticism methods by quoting from classical sources, contains many events and information that are not included in other sources (Canatar 1993b: 353). Cenâbî, who wrote the said history in Arabic, translated it briefly into Turkish after a while. This translation, arranged in sixty chapters, was given the names Dürr-i Meknûn, Sırr-ı Masûn and Gülşen-i Tevâri. It was also written in Arabic as a summary under the names Cenâbî Tarih, Nihâyetü'l-Meram and Bahr-ı Cevâhirü'l-kelâm (Kesik 1994: XIII). According to Muharrem Kesik, the Turkish summary is most likely a translation of this Arabic summary (1994: XIII). Kınalı-zâde Hasan Çelebi described the History of Heaven as subtle and Atâyî as perfect (Sungurhan 2017: 273, Donuk 2017: I/904). Mehmet Canatar prepared his doctoral thesis on the work, 18 copies of which are known (1993a). In addition, Muharrem Kesik prepared a master's thesis on the part of the work related to the Anatolian Seljuks (1994).
