The purpose of writing the work, written entirely in Arabic, is not only to provide biographical information about poets and literary figures; It is also to present students with examples of Arabic literature in the field of verse and prose. While Mehmed Zihnî explains the importance, purpose and method of his work in the preface of Kitabü't-Terâcim, he describes the personalities for whom he gives state translations, not according to the first letter of their famous names and nicknames; It states that it lists the names according to the first letter of their real name. In order to guide the reader on this issue and prevent him from having difficulties, it is necessary to know that his real name is "Abdülmelik" and look for the letter "ayin" in order to find Esmâ'î; He mentions that in order to find Ferezdak, it is necessary to know that his real name is "Hemmâm" and look for the letter "he" (Ermiş 2005: 219-220). This work, which contains the life stories and examples of the literary works of 86 famous writers and poets in Arabic literature, was one of the works that Mehmed Zihnî did not live to complete. As a matter of fact, although it was stated on the last page of the work that the letter alif was not finished yet and that the promotion would continue, the rest of the work was not completed. Kitabü't-Terâcim was published by the Company-i Mürettibiye Printing House in 1304/1887 (Mehmed Zihnî 1304/1887). There is no study yet on the work.
