Notes
An enigma written in Persian by Alî Şîr Nevâyî in 1491. The first examples of enigma in Turkish literature were given by Ahmedî (d. 815 / 1412) and Muînî. Poets from Iran and Azerbaijan played an important role in the spread and development of this literary genre in Turkish literature. The tradition of writing enigmas dates back to the 16th century. Although it lost its importance a little after the 11th century, it continued until the Tanzimat period (Saraç 2020: 320). The success of Alî Şîr Nevâyî, who played a major role in the development of the Central Asian Turkish language and literature, was a forward-thinking, self-sacrificing statesman, a broad-minded Muslim, a devout religious sect, a Turkish thinker who protected poetry and art, and a person who asserted the richness and superiority of the Turkish language in an era when Persian language and literature were widespread. His nationalism was influential (Levend 1966: 285). Until Rahmani's work, it was known that Nevâyî wrote 29 works on literary, scientific, social, religious-sufistic, moral-didactic subjects in all genres and forms of classical verse and prose (2019: 299; Ercilasun 2009: 408). However, according to Rahmani's article titled "Ali Şîr Nevâî and His Three Not Known Works in the Sources Written in His Period", the number of Nevâî's works increased to 32 with the treatises named Münşeât-ı Fârisî and Risâle-i Müfredât-ı Muamma, Risâle-i Tîr-Andâhtan (2019: 298).In order to write or tell an enigma, in addition to knowing Arabic and Persian, it is necessary to have knowledge of abjad calculus, Islamic culture, various beliefs, grammar, and classical literature. For this reason, Nevâyî wrote the work called Risâle-i Müfredât-ı Muamma in order to teach the rules of the enigma genre, which is of great importance in Persian literature, to people who want to tell and solve enigmas. In Turkish literature, Nevayî's works were classified in terms of genre, and it was determined that this work was included in the classification of language and literary works, but no explanation was made about it. The language of the work is Persian. Risâle-i Müfredât-ı Muamma was published in Iran as a 122-page introduction by Emir Nimeti and Mehdi Kasım Neyâ and as an edition-critical text by Müşkat-i Daniş publishing house (Access date: 23.04.2022).
