Notes Yûsuf Ziyâ's work consists of selections from Şehnâme. Müntehabât-ı Şehnâme-i Firdevsî-i Tûsî consists of selections from the famous poet Firdevsî (d. 1020?)'s work called Şehnâme, which is considered the national epic of Iran. Yûsuf Ziyâ, in his work In the “preface” section, he first reveals some of his thoughts about poetry and prose. According to him, "poetry and prose, in addition to being a special gift given by God to people, are the reality of things and an instructive wonder. The events that have occurred throughout history, the situation of many people in the past, dreams, ideas and feelings can be known through these two tools" (Yûsuf Ziyâ 1306: 2). In this section, Yûsuf Ziyâ also states that the copies of the Shahnameh are "expensive and rare" and then "curious and He reveals the reason for compiling the work by saying that he chose some of the anecdotes and couplets of the Shahnameh so that people of "reason" will not be deprived of such a work. Just before the Shachki section, Firdevsî's "terceme-i hali" is given. Then, the poems take their place in the same order as in the Shahnameh, and selections begin with titles such as Praise God, Praise the Mind, Creation of the Sun and the Moon... The selection ends with the titles "Rüstem Writing a Letter to Sa'd, Son of Vakkas" and "The Completion Date of the Şehnâme". No criteria were taken into account in selecting the poems, and the compiler's good taste played a role. Very few of the poems are given in full, most of them are given either starting from the beginning of the poem or from the following couplets. At the end of the 223-page work, the meanings of the words in the poems in the text are given alphabetically. The work was printed in Kasbar Printing House in 1306/1888-89.
