The work of Sadreddin Konevi (d. 673/1274) in which he explains the meanings of the most beautiful names of Allah and discusses the divine names in terms of God-universe-human connection. Stating that he wrote this work based on the hadith meaning "Allah has ninety-nine names, whoever learns them will enter heaven", Konevi explains the meaning of the ninety-nine names as they are arranged in classical literature. In Konevi's understanding, divine names express the principles of divine science (metaphysics), whose subject is the existence of God and whose issue is explaining the relationship between Allah and the universe. In this sense, according to Konevi, God's relationship with the universe and man can only be understood through His names, and man's attainment of the truth by attaining God depends on morality only through these names. Therefore, divine names are both the principles of existence of the universe and human beings and constitute the basis of the method of reaching the truth. In this respect, divine names were at the center of not only Konevi's but also the unity of existence-oriented Sufi thought as a whole, and the commentary on the beautiful names became one of the important areas of activity of Sufi authors. The work is considered one of the most competent examples of this field. At the beginning of his work, Konevi emphasizes that the divine names are actually infinite, but the entities manifested from these names are finite, and draws attention to the fact that God names himself with everything needed. This situation is a result of God's direct relationship with every particular entity in external existence. Konevi also underlines that the prophets know the names and attributes of Allah in the most perfect way, and that they can only know them as God reveals Himself to them. According to Konevi, in the hadith above, "learning" (bestowing), which will enable a person to enter heaven, means understanding the meanings of the divine names and becoming moral with them. In accordance with this idea, when Konevi explains the divine names in his work, he first mentions the meanings of the names briefly and then explains the meanings of these names according to various levels of existence and knowledge in a manner consistent with the understanding of unity of existence and some moral qualities that should be acquired from these names. For example, when explaining the name es-Sabûr, he focuses on its meaning both as the name of Allah and as patience is an act of servitude. The work, which has many manuscript copies, was translated by Ekrem Demirli under the title Esmâ-i Hüsnâ Şerhi (İstanbul 2002). For the author's biography, see.
