Notes
Imam Hüsameddin Hüseyin b., also known as Mevlana Hüsameddin Allame-i Sığnaki. Menakıbname written by Ali Sığnaki (d. 711/1311) and describing the life and miracles of Ahmed Yesevi, who is considered the founder of Turkish Islam. The other name of the work known as Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi is Risale-i Hüsameddin-i Sığnaki. The exact date when this important work was written is not known. However, considering the period in which the author lived, it can be estimated that it was written towards the end of the 7th century Hijri. The only known copy of Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi so far is located in the Library of the Oriental Studies Institute of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences in Tashkent. It is registered in the library between files 11b-14a at number 11084. The date of copying and the copyist of the manuscript that has survived to the present day are unknown (Tosun 1998: 74). In Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi, the education that Ahmet Yesevi received from the pirs by serving them is first mentioned. Accordingly, Ahmed Yesevi wore a cardigan made of one hundred and seventy pieces and received permission to perform vocal dhikr and sema. When he was only twelve years old, he completed his path to perfection and became a perfect human being. Ahmed Yesevi, who learned the ways of guiding the common people from Sheikhulislam Sheikh Shihabeddin Suhrawardi, had his hair, beard, mustache and eyebrows cut and joined the group of abdals. He traveled with Kalenderi dervishes for forty years and was friends with Hızır and İlyas. Hz. He received education from Hızır and deepened in the knowledge of esoteric knowledge. Ahmed Yesevi did not neglect the external sciences. He learned the apparent sciences from Imam Fahreddin Razi enough to give lessons in seventy-three branches of science (Tosun 1998: 78-79). According to Menakib-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi, Ahmed Yesevi, who deepened in the apparent and esoteric sciences, gained a great reputation and gathered a large number of disciples around him. According to what is reported, twenty-two thousand muftis, sixty thousand sayyidzades, ten thousand imamzades from Harizm, ten thousand scholars, ninety thousand saints, eight thousand abdals and twelve thousand miraculous sufis attended Ahmed Yesevi's conversation (Tosun 1998: 79). In one night, ninety emirs and thirteen thousand people accompanying each of them became subject to Ahmed Yesevi (Tosun 1998: 80). One of the interesting information in Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi is that he performed the sect's worship with men and women, dhikr and sema. When some gossip and objections arose about this issue, Ahmed Yesevi performed a miracle and wrapped the fire in cotton and put the cotton in a box. But cotton does not burn. Thus, Ahmed Yesevi wants to symbolically explain that men and women worshiping together is harmless (Tosun 1998: 79). There is an intense emphasis on Turkishness in Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi. Ahmed Yesevi and the sheikhs who follow him are referred to as "Turkish sheikhs" (Tosun 1998: 80). It is reported that Sheikh Şihabüddin Sühreverdi addressed Ahmed Yesevi as "Ey pir-i Turkestan" (Tosun 1998: 80). Some of Ahmed Yesevi's sayings are also included in Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi, where many of his other miracles are explained in a short and concise manner. Ahmed Yesevi, who was known by names such as Şeyh Ahmed Yesevi, Hace Ahmed Yesevi, Halife Ahmed, Pir-i Türkistan, died after living 126 or 130 years, as reported in the work (Tosun 1998: 78). Menakıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi consists of a short menakıbname written in Persian. It is in prose structure. Necdet Tosun published the work with a short introduction in 1998 (Tosun 1998: 73-81). In the article in question, after giving information about Imam Sığnâkî's life, works and Menâkıb-ı Ahmed-i Yesevi, the text of the work and its translation into Turkey Turkish are included.
