Notes	Story written by Ali Muzaffer Bey. The story of Bir Sergüzeş, one of the examples of Turkish literature of the modernization period, is about the events that develop around the forbidden love of two young people. The cover of the work, which was published in Istanbul on April 15, 1895, includes the sentence "It contains a very strange case" and the title "A Sergüzeşt-i Bedii" on the first page. The story begins with the old surgeon marrying a young woman. Over time, the woman becomes close to the town's notorious young man. The surgeon, who does everything he can to make his wife happy, prepares a mixture to put his patients to sleep during the surgery. The lady invites her lover home on the night when the surgeon will be out. The young man accidentally drinks the mixture and is thought to be dead and placed in an empty chest. But the ballot box is stolen by loan sharks. When the young man wakes up and starts to move, the chest breaks. The young man, who does not understand what happened, is arrested and accused of theft. The maid agrees with the madam and tells the surgeon and the police chief that the young man has come to the mansion to meet her. The young man is saved and his love affair with the madam continues where he left off. Although the story bears Ali Muzaffer Bey's signature, it resembles more of a translation in terms of subject. Ali Muzaffer Bey uses his pen to inform the public and covers a wide range of subjects in this regard. In this work, he deals with the relationship between men and women, one of the most preferred topics of the period, in a simple and understandable language, within the framework of the traditional novel understanding. In the story, the problems caused by the age difference between spouses are expressed through humorous elements. The work could not go beyond its time due to the inadequacy of its narrative techniques and its failure to bring a noticeable innovation within its period.
