Notes
It is one of the three sermon books written by Sheikh Afvî. In 1131/1719, he was assigned to preach at Üsküdar Hüdâyî Asitânesi by his sheikh Bilecikli Osman Efendi. Hediyyetü'l-vu'âz consists of the sermons here. Afvî completed the writing of his work in Arabic in 1719. The author's copy of the work is registered in the Hüdâyî collection of H. Selimağa Library with inventory number 336. Ta'lik is written in broken script and has 156 leaves. Konya Regional Manuscript Library Burdur Provincial Public Library collection number 1040 includes only two assemblies of Risâle fi'l-mecâlis ve'l-mevâiz, Hediyyetü'l-vu'âz, between sheets 165b-174b. Afvî Efendi wrote the work as a gift to the brotherhood, especially as a guide for people who will preach at certain times. He benefited from reliable hadith and tafsir books in writing the work. Apart from Sahîhayn, Hakîm en-Nisâbûrî's Müstedrek, Münâvî's Şerhu Câmii's-sağîr and İbn Melek's Meşâriḳu'l-envâr are some of the hadith sources he used. In the interpretation of the verses, there are many references to Begâvî's Meâlimü't-tenzîl, Ömer Nesefî's et-Teysir fi't-Tefsir, Fahreddîn er-Râzî's Mefâhîhu'l-gayb, Kurtubi's Tafsir. Afvî, who also attaches importance to the ishari interpretations of the verses, also referred to Kuşeyrî's Letâifü'l-işârât, Sülemî's Hakāik, and Ruzbihânî Baklî's Arâisu'l-beyân. Among the references of the author, who attaches importance to recording the names of the sources he uses, are Ebû Leys Semerkandî's Tenbîhül-gâfilîn, Gazâlî's Mişkâtü'l-envâr, es-Suyûtî's el-Budûrü's-sâfire fî umûri'l-âhire, Kastallânî's There is also Mevâhibü'l-ledünniye. Hediyyetü'l-vu'âz consists of 42 councils. At the entrance, there is an index showing the titles and page numbers that shed light on the content of the assemblies. The first fifteen assemblies of Hz. It is about the life and prophethood of the Prophet. The first parliament, his Hz. It begins with a narration about his lineage dating back to Ishmael. After the author, Hz. He explained the Prophet's being the father of spirits and his seniority in creation with various narrations. The creation of the universe and Adam within the framework of the understanding of Muhammad's Truth is among the subjects of this section. Sira bets in the work and Hz. The characteristics of the prophethood of the Prophet are discussed within the framework of a Qur'anic verse or the interpretation of surahs such as Inshirah, Kevser, Duha and Ikhlas surahs. There is an indirect chronology. On the subject of holy months and days, the author said in the sixteenth assembly, "The number of months with Allah is twelve. Four of them are forbidden months." It starts with the interpretation of the verse (At-Tawbah 9/36). The sanctity of the three months and the quality of honoring them, the virtue of fasting in the month of Shawwal, sacrifice and pilgrimage in Dhu al-Qa'dah are the subjects of the following assemblies. The last two assemblies are about the virtue of the tenth of Muharram. Within this framework, the author touched upon many fiqh, moral and mystical issues due to his conversational style. For example, when interpreting the Surah Al-Ikhlas, the word goes as far as mentioning the qualities of the sage. Yâkûb Afvî definitely pointed out the esoteric dimension of the subjects he discussed. For this purpose, he benefited from the stories of the Prophet, the lives of his companions and the legends of the Sufis rather than speculative interpretations. Hz. The fact that it contains examples from Arabic poetry as well as the verses of the Prophet's vaTuhfetü'l-vu'âz fî nehci'l-ittiâz, and the presence of additional information in the margins increases the value of the work. Since the composition, purpose of writing and name of Tuhfetü'l-vu'âz fî nehci'l-ittiâz are similar to Hediyyetü'l-vu'âz, it was thought that they were the same work.
