Notes
It is a Persian work of Ahi Evren Sheikh Nasîrü'd-dîn Mahmud el-Hoyî, who was one of the versatile and scholars of the Anatolian Seljuk period and became famous as Danişmend-i Rûmî, and the chief architect of the Ahî organization, known as Metâli'ül-İman (Dimensions of Faith), in which the subjects of Sufism and faith are discussed. Ahi Evren describes this work as Ahi Evren. He wrote it to describe the spiritual world of the tradesmen and craftsmen within the structure of the Organization, to build their world of belief and to give them a certain belief formation. The work, which is a catechism of the principles of faith, was translated into Turkish by the poet Yusuf Hakikî, the son of Hamidü'd-din el-Aksarayî, known as the Somuncu father. In the preface of the work, the author states that the principles of faith and belief have weakened in the century he lived in, and that he wrote this work to further strengthen these weakened beliefs (Bayram 1996: 35). Work; It consists of three parts: introduction (Fatiha), three births (matla) and conclusion (hatime). In the Fatiha chapter, he explains that people are divided into two groups, some of them follow the prophets, and the other part achieves salvation with their mental powers. The first matla' section is about faith in Allah and is divided into three kewkebes. In the second matla' section, the subject of belief in the prophets is discussed in two kewkebes. In the third matla section, the issue of belief in the afterlife is discussed and explained in two kevkebes. In the Hatime section, he states that there are two paths for the believer, one is to comply with the principles of the book, sunnah, qiyas and ijma put forward by the mujtahids, and the other is the path of Sufism. In this way, it is mentioned that the prophets were instrumental in saving their ummah and it was necessary to obey the sheikhs they were among (Ahi Evren 1262: 32-49). To summarize the topics discussed in the work; Praise and praise to God Almighty, Hz. Prayers and greetings to Muhammad talk about evil, ignorance, complaints about the increase in disbelief, and the increase in injustice. In the rest of the work, it is stated that the struggle between right and wrong will not end; The necessity of believing in Allah, His Messenger, the Qur'an and the afterlife is emphasized. Emphasizing the necessity of adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet, it is stated that salvation is only possible by complying with the Sunnah and the consensus of the Ummah. For this reason, the importance of the path of Sufism is pointed out (Bayram 1995: 88). In his work titled Metali'ül-İman, Ahi Evren tried to convey the principles of faith in a concise manner with a Sunni understanding and used an understandable style. The author also benefited from verses of the Quran, hadiths, Torah and Bible narrations and Arabic narrations in his work. Again, in the work, he described the spiritual feelings of the tradesmen and craftsmen around him and aimed to unite them in a certain feeling and thought (Altuğ 2021).
