Notes
The work written by Kemalpaşa-zâde as a parallel to Sheikh Sâdî-i Şirâzî's famous work Gülistân. Nigaristân consists of 1 introduction and 8 chapters. In the introduction of the work, the author praised Allah and Hz. It explains the reason why it was written after the blessings upon the Prophet. Accordingly, while he was sitting in a corner at dawn in the spring, he offered his friend Kemalpaşa-zâde to wander around the garden together. While returning from a trip, the author sees the bouquet of flowers his friend collected for him as a gift and tells him that he is thinking of writing a permanent work against all these temporary beauties. He likes this idea of his friend Kemalpaşa-zâde and supports him. In this regard, the author stated without hesitation that he occasionally quoted from this book in his work, which he wrote as a parallel to Gülistan, and dedicated his work to the grand vizier of the period, İbrahim Pasha (Çiçekler 1994: 77). The first part, where the sultans' secrets are told, consists of 149 stories. These stories are generally selected from past rulers. In the second part, the situation of the dervishes is explained, mentioning the need not to be greedy for worldly goods. In the third chapter, contentment is discussed, in the fourth chapter, the virtue of silence and speech, in the fifth chapter, love and youth, in the sixth chapter, weakness and old age, in the seventh chapter, the effect of good manners on people, and in the last chapter, conversation etiquette and the issues of accident and fate are emphasized (Çiçekler 1994: 78-80). Some of the stories in Nigaristan are taken from Gülistan. However, Kemalpaşa-zâde left his own style mark on the stories told by using long descriptions and selective narration, and changed the poems most of the time. In addition to Gülistân, especially in the sections where Sufis are mentioned, it is seen that the author also passed through his own style crucible and quoted from Nigaristân'a Attâr's work titled Tezkiretü'l-Evliyâ (Flowers). 1994: 77). A doctoral thesis was prepared on Nigarista, of which many copies were found in domestic and foreign libraries (Çiçekler 1994). For the author's biography, see.
