Notes
Sadreddin Konevî's (d. 673/1274) work written on İbnü'l-Arabi's book Fusûsu'l-hikem. The book, whose full name is el-Fükûk fî esrâri müstenidâti hikemi'l-Fusûsol, is a small-volume work consisting of explanations on certain topics rather than a commentary in the traditional sense. The importance of the work lies in the fact that it contributes to the understanding of the book by giving the background of Ibnü'l-Arabi's choices in terms of style, interpretation and classification in Fusûsu'l-hikem, the basic text of the Sufi tradition of thought. For this reason, el-Fukuk had a significant influence on the followers of unity of existence and Fusus commentators such as Müeyyidüddîn Cendî, Dâvûd el-Kayseri, Abdürrezzâk el-Kâşânî, Abdurrahman Câmî. In the introduction of the work, Konevi mentions the importance of Fusûs and its difficulty in understanding, and states that people want him to open the closed points of the book. Stating that he was privy to Ibn al-Arabi's secrets thanks to his closeness with him, Konevi states that he decided to write the work due to the commonality in this knowledge. Konevi, who later analyzes the concepts of "fas", "word" and "wisdom" found in the titles in Fusus, explains respectively the levels of wisdom and knowledge that Ibn Arabi associates with each prophet in accordance with the classification in Fusus. Another important aspect of the work is that it includes Konevi's statements in the preface that he sees himself as a real heir of Ibn al-Arabi, that he is the last representative of the period of discovery and observation represented by Ibn al-Arabi, and that people after him will not be able to experience such a period in knowledge, wisdom and experience. The work, which was published with its Persian translation by Muhammed Hâcevî (Tehran 1992), was translated into Turkish by Ekrem Demirli under the title Fusûsu'l-Hikem's Secrets (Istanbul 2002).
