Notes It is an Arabic commentary on Birgivî Mehmed Efendi's (d. 981/1573) concise work on the grammar titled Avamîl-i Cedîd. The author's intention to give the work the name Eş-Şerhu's-Sedîd Li'l-Avâmili'l-Cedîd, which means "the correct commentary of Avamîl-i Cedîd", is to express that it takes the students who read the commentary to the most correct one - among other commentaries - (Köksoy 2008: 21). The commentator aimed to better understand Avamîl-i Cedîd, which has been taught in madrasas for centuries and which is a grammar book but also contains examples of good morals and belief (Köksoy 2008: 15). The introduction of this commentary of Nâkıd İbrahim Efendi begins with the basmala and praise-salvela; It continues with the mention of the author's name, Imam Birgivî's praise and the reason for the work. İbrahim Efendi states that Birgivî's work "has reached its peak by covering all subjects with its short words, rich in meaning, concise and perfect expressions" and states that a commentary should be written on this work in order to eliminate the obscurities in the meaning and reveal the secrets (Köksoy 2008: 22; Köksoy 2016: 320). The examples used by the commentator to explain the grammatical rules are just like As in Birgivî's work, the verses are selected from hadiths and sayings about good morals. However, it is not stated in which sura the verses are mentioned, in which book the hadiths are included and who the narrator is. In addition, the names of the works used while giving the dictionary meanings of the words were mentioned, and nearly 30 sources were used while creating this commentary (Köksoy 2008: 23-26). It is noteworthy that the author includes the opinions of important scholars from different language schools in his work and ultimately expresses his own opinion and uses Ottoman Turkish when he deems it necessary when explaining some subjects (Köksoy 2008: 24). A master's thesis was prepared on this work (Köksoy 2008). For the biography of the author, see. "Nâkıd, İbrahim Efendi". Turkish Literature Names Dictionary.
