Notes
A critical article written by Mirza Fethali Ahundzade in Persian in 1279/1862. This work, also known as Risâle-i İrâdol, is a critical article about the history book titled Ravzatü's-Safâ-yı Nâsırî, written by Rıza-kulu Han Hidâyet. This work of Ahundzade consists of imaginary dialogues between himself and Rıza-kulu Han. Tenġid Treatise is an important work in terms of showing Ahundzade's thoughts about the rhyme tradition in prose. Ahundzade wrote this work in the book Ravzatü's-Safâ-yı Nâsırîtarih, the late Xaqan Məhəmmə Şah Qacarın Herat He gives the title Zikri of the Exploration of Quriya and begins to read a historical event under this title. Later, when he comes across Rıza-kulu Han's poem given in the text, he starts the dialogue by asking him why this poem is in the historical text. Rıza-kulu Han and Ahundzade argue throughout their mutual dialogue. Ahundzade does not find it appropriate to include verse pieces in works describing historical events. He states that these verse pieces are irrelevant to historical events and cause unnecessary words. Rıza-kulu Han, on the other hand, emphasizes that the poems he wrote should be within historical events. Throughout the dialogue, Ahundzade defends the view that it is not right to have verse pieces, poems, rhyming words and verses in historical texts, and that historical texts should be clear and understandable. According to him, the historian should only write about the events that happened. According to the author, the tradition of rhyme and rhyme in prose is a tradition inherited from the Arabs; But now is the time to eliminate rhyme in prose, to eliminate unnecessary words for rhyme, to eliminate multiple repetitions. Finally, Ahundzade concludes his work by emphasizing that when an author writes a work in Europe, another person criticizes that work subtly, and a third person contributes by saying his thoughts about this criticism, and therefore criticism is very important. Although Tenġid Treatise expresses opinions about rhyme in prose, it reminds of the theater atmosphere because it consists of dialogues in structure. The fact that Ahundzade created a fictional character in this work and included and discussed herself in the text by treating herself as a character shows that she presented her own ideas in a different style, like a play played on the theater stage. In addition, the inclusion of idioms, exclamations, and sincere conversations in the dialogues seem to support this atmosphere. For the author's biography, see.
