Notes The work containing the commentary of İbnü'l-Arabi's Fusûsü'l-Hikem, written by Sufi Karabaş Veli. The full name of the work written in order to understand and appreciate İbnü'l-Arabi's Sufi science is Kitâb-ı Şerh-i Fusûsu'l-Hikem el-Musemmâ. bi-Kâşifi'l-Esrâr (Kara 2002: 82). The work was written in Arabic between 1670 and 1671. It is also thought that there is a work called Câmi'ul Esrâri'l- Fusûs, in which the Arabic commentary of the work is summarized (Kara 2002: 2). In some copies, the name of the work is mentioned as Magzü'l-Fusûs and Kâşifü'l-Müşkilât (Alkan 2017: 229). Karabaş Veli Efendi decided to commentate the book because the people in Istanbul did not take Fusûsü'l-Hikem into consideration and even denied it during his time. At the same time, he stated that the work is a book that "contains all the knowledge of the prophets and saints" and emphasized the importance of its commentary (Alkan 2017: 228). The first sentence of the work begins as "Alhamdülillâhillezî caale 'l-insâne mîzânen bi¬ bahri ulûmihî ve hassahû li ttecellî'd-dâimi bizâtihî". While commentating on the work, Karabaş Velî first gave İbnü'l-Arabi's text by saying "Kale'ş-Şeyh" (The Sheikh said this), and then wrote his commentary by saying "ve'l-ma'nâ" (when it came to its meaning) (Kara 2002: 82). Karabaş Velî, who thought that the commentary of the work would make one forget the original, stated that he wrote the commentary in a concise manner, but that the true meaning of the work could not be understood unless it was trained in the hands of a perfect guide. In the work, Karabaş Veli "since he was going to write a summary commentary, he did not touch on extensive grammatical analyzes or copy differences, but focused directly on the meaning and content of the text" (Alkan 2017: 228). He did not include the commentators before him. Karabaş Veli, who is concerned that the deep meaning of the work will cause misunderstandings, warns the reader on this issue. He says that even if he encounters some issues that may contradict understanding in the content of Fusûsü'l-Hikem, he should maintain his good opinion about the text. He also states in the commentary that he will not extend the words too much because too many words will distract the person from the purpose (kesîru'l-kelâm yûrisü'n-nisyân) (Alkan 2017: 228). The commentary was written by Karabaş Velî, especially Şeyh Şâbân-ı Velî, his sheikhs İsmail Çorumî and Mustafa Efendi, and the sultan of the period, IV. It ends with his prayer to Mehmed (Alkan 2017: 229). A copy of the work is in the Hacı Mahmut Efendi Section of Istanbul Süleymaniye Library. It is 14x85 mm in size and each page has 19 lines. In the 1/b leaf of the book, "Kitâb-i Şerh-i Fusûsu'l-Hikem el-Müsemmâ bi-Kâşifi 'l-Esrâr li'ş-şeyh Ali b. Muhammed el-Kastamonî el-Halvetî Eş-şa'bânî eç-çehîr bi-Karabaş-i Velî kuddise sirrahu'l-celi" is written (Kara 2002: 83). Another copy is in the Arabic Manuscripts section of the Topkapı Palace Museum and consists of 161 leaves with a width of 195x115 mm. Detailed information about the content and copies of the work is given in Kerem Kara's doctoral thesis titled Karabaş Veli Life, Works and Ideas. Ercan Alkan's article titled "Ottoman Period Fusûsü'l-Hikem Commentary Literature" includes detailed information about the importance of Karabaş Veli's commentary and the content of the work among the commentaries of the work.
