Notes
Arabic prose commentary written by Ömer Naʻîmî Efendi (d. 1299/1882), who was born in Harput in 1216/1801-02, for Bûsîrî's (d. 696/1297?) Kasîde-i Bürde. He gained fame as the commentator of Kasîde-i Bürde and after completing his education, his father The work in question by Ömer Naʻîmî Efendi, who was the mufti of Harput like Hacı Ahmed Efendi, was praised by the Egyptian governor Mehmed Ali Pasha and by his order it was printed first in Egypt and then in Istanbul. Ömer Naʻîmî used the word “asîde” to match the pronunciation of the word kaside and named his workel-Asîdetü'ş-Şühde Şerhu Kasîdeti'l-Bürde (Honey Slurry Regarding the Commentary on Kasîde-i Bürde). This work, which was completed by Ömer Naʻîmî in 1243/1827-28 when he was very young, still maintains its value and guiding feature in terms of language and style. In the work, which is among the most important of the Kasîde-i Bürde commentary, almost all the difficult words were analyzed structurally and semantically in terms of pronunciation, syntax, semantics and rhetoric. Sarı Abdullah-zâde Mehmed Efendi from Kayseri, one of the teachers from whom Naʻîmî took lessons, had a great influence on this commentary. Naʻîmî touches upon this point in the introduction of his commentary and states that he started reading Kasîde-i Bürde from Mehmed Efendi in 1241/1825-26, collected and brought together his teacher's explanations in full, added explanations about grammar and rhetoric to them, and composed his work in this way. The style used in the introduction of the work and the style used in the commentary section differ from each other. Because, while a style bearing the characteristics of proprietary prose is dominant in the preface, it is possible to see clear and plain language features, far from artistic prose, in the commentary. In this respect, satisfactory explanations about the source couplets from various aspects can be easily understood without straining the reader. While commenting on a couplet, Naʻîmî established a relationship between this couplet and the previous couplet and did not make any grammatical explanations before doing this. In explanations about grammar, he specified both the type of words in terms of usage and the tense/tense of verbs and nouns. Naʻîmî; He also made very successful explanations on issues related to the science of rhetoric such as meânî, beyân and bedîʻ and tried to convey to the readers the beauty that rhetoric-related arts added to couplets. Naʻîmî, who sometimes gave short and sometimes detailed explanations to the words in the source couplets, also benefited from proverbs and idioms, and branches of science such as tafsir and fiqh based on the Quran and hadiths, in order to enrich his work. There are 52 printed copies of the commentary, printed in Egyptian and Istanbul printing houses, in the Suleymaniye Library and affiliated libraries. The copy written with the author's calligraphy is registered in Ankara National Library, number 01 Hk 311/1, between pages 1b-112a (For detailed information about the copies, see Yücel 2020a: 113-116, Yücel 2020b: 171-179). A doctoral thesis was prepared on the work (Yücel 2020a). For the poet's biography, see. “Naʻîmî, Ömer”.Turkish Literature Names Dictionary.
