Notes
The work of Muhyî-i Gülşenî. According to research, Bâleybelen, which contains the world's first artificial language discovered to date, literally means "making the mute people speak" or "giving life to the mute with language" (Koç 2011: 54). Muhyî discusses the process of producing Bâleybelen, which he completed between 1566-1574, and his purpose in writing the work in his first treatise in the field of language, Bereme'y-Kâbe'y-Nele, and expresses the firstness and originality of the work he created as follows: "I invented such an independent language that no human being has created such a one. I transferred Turkish and Persian into this language, with the Arabic order. I strengthened the building. Ten topics were arranged in this language, which I named Bâleybelen. I wrote competently about a hundred issues that the virtuous people in each science could not overcome.” (Koç 2011: 59).Muhyî was influenced by some people in the emergence of Bâleybelen. These names are Mevlana Emîr Çelebi Efendi, Muhammed Bekrî, Muhammed Pasha b. Üveys Pasha, Molla Muhammed Emîn, Osman Bey b. Mustafa Pasha, Nakib Malûlzâde Mehmed Efendi, İskenderpaşazâde Ahmed Pasha, Çivizâde Mehmed Efendi and their sons Mustafa, Ahmed, Fethî and Muhyîzâde Hasan Efendi are included in the sources where these names are related to this language (Koç 2011: 62-66). In Bâleybelen, where the Arabic alphabet is used, the writing is from right to left and The main rule is that every word corresponds to a meaning. In the work where the law of minimum labor is applied, structures such as dual (deuteronomy), feminine (muennes), and irregular plural forms are not included. Determination of word roots is carried out in two ways: inspiration and quotations from other languages. Quotation structures are in two ways: First, the words offered to Muhyî by his friends; The second is quotations from other languages. It is seen that Arabic is used in Bâleybelen's syntax, Persian is used in word groups, and Turkish and Persian are used in general structural information (Koç 2011: 67). The book also includes treatises in which the entire Ottoman grammar is explained (Koç 2011: 69-78). 37 of Muhyî-i Gülşenî's works are recorded in a journal numbered 7128 in the Egyptian Hidiviyye Library. The photocopied copy of this magazine is located in Isam Library, number 8906. Baleybelen is among the pages 47b-87a of the copy in question. Another copy of the book, apart from the magazine in the Egyptian Library, is also available online at Princeton University Digital Library. This copy has 164 pages and is written in 17 lines in nestalic script (Karagözlü 2014). Kavâ'id-i Bâleybelen was first introduced to the scientific world in 1813 by the French orientalist Silvestre de Sacy. In this study, Sacy thought that he had found the first data of an unknown language and could not detect the pseudonym Muhyî. The fact that Bâleybelen was the first artificial language was put forward with the classification attempt made by Alessadro Bausani in 1974. In the catalog published by the National Library of France in 1989, the belonging of this work to Muhyî-i Gülşenî was cautiously stated (Koç 2011: 55-57). Midhat Sertoğlu made Bâleybelen known and re-discussed in Turkey with his article titled "A Turk Invented the First International Language" published in the February 1966 issue of Hayat Tarih Mecmuası (Karagözlü 2014). The most detailed study about Bâleybelen was conducted by Mustafa Koç in 2005. The work, which is read as Bâlibilen in the studies that provide information about Muhyî, was read as Bâleybelen by Mustafa Koç and published as Bâleybelen Muhyî-i Gülşeni, İlk Yapi Didı (2005, 2011).
