Notes
The work of Ahmed Dursun Nâtıkî, one of the late Ottoman poets and writers, by quoting each couplet of the work titled Muhtasarü'l-Ma'ânî by Sa'deddin Teftâzânî (d. 792/1390) and stating which sources it came from. The full name of the work is Takrîzâtu Ebyâti Muhtasari't-Telhîs ve Şevâhidi'l-Funûn Maa'l-Berâhini Ve't-Tansî and it consists of 1 preface, 1 introduction, 3 chapters and 1 epilogue. In the work, an estimation of approximately 280 couplets in Muhtasarü'l-Ma'ânî was made. Takrîzât-ı Ebyât begins with a four-page preface. After mentioning the basmala, praise and salvela, Nâtıkî made explanations about the content of the work and the science of rhetoric. Afterwards, Sultan II. He praised Mahmud and the Asâkir-i Mansûre-i Muhammediye organization he founded and Serasker Esad Mehmed Muhlis Pasha, briefly introduced himself and explained the date and reason for the copyright of the work. Accordingly, Nâtıkî wrote his work in order to make it easier for madrasah students to understand difficult poems and to enable them to practice aruz a lot. He started the work in 1247/1831 and completed it in 1253/1837. After the introduction comes the 12-page introduction section. Extensive information about the science of aruz is given in the introduction. The definition of aruz was made and the founder of this science was stated and the names such as bahir, darb, zihâf, hazf, mala, reasons, veted, interval etc. were made. terms are explained. In addition, in this section, it is stated that all bahirs are found in the Quran and examples from the Quran verses are given for each bahir. Following this, there are three main sections consisting of ma'ani, beyan and bedi as applied in Muhtasarü'l-Ma'ani. In these sections, the rhymes and aruz measurements of the poems in Muhtasarü'l-Ma'ani are explained and the verses are arranged according to their parts; Either all or some of the words of the poems were explained in Arabic; A separate title was opened for each poem and it was stated which subject of rhetoric was given as an example; Grammar analyzes were made and some determinations were made about rhetorical issues. In the Hatime section, plagiarism in poetry is the subject. At the end of the poem where Nâtıkî has finished his explanation, Nâtıkî mostly says, "Nâtıkî criticized it this way", "It is one of Nâtıkî's words", "Nâtıkî explained it like this", "This is how I understood it", "Pay attention to this", "Think", "Understand this thoroughly", etc. He used expressions. He also included prayer when he mentioned his name. In general, the following method was followed in the work: Nâtıkî mentions the poem by saying "So-and-so is an example of the subject", then analyzes the words in the poem in terms of both structure and meaning, and generally explains the meaning of the poem as a whole with simple and understandable expressions. In cases where the Arabic explanation is not sufficient, he tries to explain the words in Turkish and Persian. Sometimes he even translated the entire couplet into Turkish or Persian. Although he makes extensive use of Muhtasarü'l-Ma'ânî as the source text, he summarizes and conveys the concept rather than taking the phrase as it is. The fact that Nâtıkî does not include discussions and disagreements that exceed the dimension of commentary shows that he pays attention to the students' levels and takes the teaching dimension into consideration (Şimşek 2020: 608, 611). The only known copy of this important work, in which a rich poetry collection is examined from many aspects, is registered in the National Library Manuscripts Collection number 06 Mil Yz A 381, in the name of Dursun Ahmet Nâtıkî. An article about the work has been published (Şimşek 2020). For the author's biography, see. “Nâtıkî, Ahmed Dursun”. Dictionary of Turkish Literature Names.
