Notes
The author's work on the life and words of Bahaeddin Naqshband, to whom Naqshbandiyya is attributed, and the suluk method in Naqshbandiyyah. The work, written recently by Bahaeddin Naqshband, is important in terms of understanding the doctrinal structure and lineage of the sect. In his work, Yakub-ı Çerhî gives information about the process of affiliation with his sheikh Bahaeddin Nakşbend, his words and legends, the crisis he experienced after the death of his sheikh and how he got out of it. The life of the people in the Nakshi sequence, the types of dhikr and the method to be followed in performing it, the importance of nafilah prayers and tahajjud, conversation and etiquette, halal lokma, some Sufi concepts, the virtue of constantly ablution, and the characteristics of the guides are also the subjects included in the Risale. Yakub Çerhî, Salâh b. Unlike Mubarak and Muhammed Parsa, he placed Ebu'l-Kasım-ı Gürgânî between Ebû Ali Fârmedi and Ebu'l-Hasan-ı Harakânî, instead of being a secondary road in its previous form. With such a change in the lineage, it is seen that Yakub-ı Çerhî also drew attention to the emphasis on Uwaysiism in the Naqshbandi order. While dealing with the subjects, the author includes not only the words of his sheikh, but also the couplets of Mevlana Celâleddin-i Rûmî and Hakîm Tirmidhi. The work, which is widely found in libraries under various titles in Turkey, was copied by names such as Mustakimzâde Süleyman Sadeddin, Hasan Şevki et-Trabzonî, and La'lîzâde Abdulbaki Efendi. He translated it into Ottoman Turkish. See National Library, Manuscripts Section, No: Yz A 2812/1).
