Notes About: Clear copy of Abū al-Faḍl ʻAbd Allāh ibn Maḥmūd ibn Mawdūd al-Mawṣilī al-Buldajī's (d.1284) compendium of Ḥanafī legal decisions. This copy lacks the introductory matter but opens directly with Kitāb al-Ṭahārah. See Mich. Isl. Ms. 101 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.251, copied by Yūsuf ibn Walī ibn Dāwūd (Yusuf Velî Davut) with transcription finished in the year 1086 [1675 or 6]. Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 137. Work on law." Binding: Pasteboards covered in marbled paper (blue, salmon, etc.) with dark brown leather over spine, foreedge flap and edges/turn-ins ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in laid European paper ; sewn in cream thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and cream, fair condition ; overall in poor condition with severe abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather (especially lower cover), staining, moisture damage, pest damage, etc. Support: European laid paper mainly with 7 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and chain lines spaced 26-28 mm. apart ; watermarks include three crescents (tre lune) and crown-star-crescent ; thick and burnished. Decoration: Section headings, keywords, and abbreviation symbols often rubricated, some with green or red accents (geometric fill, crosshatch, etc.) , occasionally entirely in green. Script: Naskh ; bold Turkish hand ; virtually serifless ; slight effect of tilt to the left ; pointing mainly in distinct dots ; fairly compact though with some elongation of horizontal strokes and occasional sweeping descenders ; even more compact from around p.159 ; especially heavy line for horizontal strokes ; some sections appear to have been provided in a different hand. Layout: Written in 11 and 13 lines per page (initially 11 then shifts to 13 lines per page at p.159) ; frame-ruled. Collation: 12 V(120), IV (128) ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords irregularly present and appear occasionally cut off ; in rare instances lacks proper catchwords though last word of final line on the verso of each leaf is usually repeated at the beginning of the first line on the following recto ; ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (skips opening leaf and two pages between pp.249-250). Colophon: "Scribal," triangular and rectangular, reads: "تمت الكتاب بعون الله ملك الوهاب [كذا] ... كتبه الفقير ... مذنب محتاج الى غنى رحمة واسعة يوسف بن ولي بن داود غفر الله لهم ولجميع المؤمنين والمؤمنات والاحياء منهم والاموات" Explicit: "ولا مولى المولى الا عند عدمهم وان كان له موال اعتق [كذا] واعتقهم فهي بطلة [باطلة]" Incipit: "كتاب الطهارة من اراد الصلوة وهو محدث فليتوضأ و [كذا] وفرض الوضوء غسل الوجه واليدين مع المرفقين ومسح ربع الرأس وغسل الرجلين مع الكعبين ..."
