Notes Muslihuddin Mustafa b., nicknamed Ahterî. Şemseddin el-Karahisârî el-Hanefi is one of the scholars who lived during the time of Suleiman the Magnificent. He is called Karahisârî because he was born in Karahisar. He worked as a teacher in Kütahya and died there. There is a little information about his works in the fields of history, jurisprudential issues, historical-literary discussion and dictionary, which he wrote and whose manuscripts exist in the sources. The most famous of these is an Arabic-Turkish dictionary and his famous work called Ahterî. The work has an important place in scientific circles for reasons such as arranging Arabic words alphabetically, giving the Turkish equivalents of the words and reinforcing them with another synonymous Arabic word, using the word in an Arabic sentence according to its meaning, choosing frequently used words and creating the dictionary from them, and reducing the volume of the work. Kâtib Çelebi states that there are two copies of this work, Kübrâ and Suğrâ. Zirikli merely mentioned the name Ahterî and did not provide any information about his copies. Baghdadlı İsmail Pasha states that Karahisârî wrote three copies of Ahterî books about the dictionary. In the light of this information, researchers working on the manuscripts of the work disagreed. Hulusi Kılıç, the author of the DİA Ahterî article, states that the work is more popular than other dictionaries and is referred to as kebir. He states that this situation has led some writers to think that the work also has deaf and evsat forms. However, he states that there is no difference between the manuscripts and that the various editions are of the same volume, and that the views of deaf and evsat are unfounded and that this is due to the attribute of kebir. Accordingly, the attribute of greatness is an attribute of the reputation of the work, not its volume. Later Prof. Dr. H. Ahmet Kırkkılıç and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sancak, in the introduction of the book called Ahterî-yi Kebîr, which they published, states that there are three copies of the work in Hadâ'iku'l-Hakâ'ik fî Tekmileti'ş-Şakâ'ik, and two copies in Kâmûsu'l-A'lâm and Keşfü'z-Zunûn. Turkish Encyclopedia, Turkish Language and Literature Encyclopedia state that the Great Larousse also recorded the information that Ahterî has medium and small scale figures in the light of this information. However, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmet Kırkkılıç and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sancak also believes that Hulusi Kılıç made the correct determination on this issue and that there is only one copy of Ahterî. Assoc. Prof. wrote an article on Ahterî-i Sağir. Dr. Sibel Murad, on the other hand, states that Ahterî-i Kebîr and Ahterî-i Sağîr are different copies, that the introductions of the copies are different, and that their contents are also different, through various examples, and that she has identified 8 copies of Ahterî-i Sağîr. Then he gives brief information about them. Among these, copies of Manisa Provincial Public Library / 3051, Hagia Sophia / 04650, Afyon Gedik Ahmet Pasha Provincial Public Library / 03 Gedik 17528, Izmir / 00635 and additionally Yozgat / 00395, Selimiye Manuscripts / 5050, Kadızade Mehmed / 00539, Manisa Provincial Public Library / 6665, General Copies with fixed stock numbers / 4685, Manisa Provincial Public Library / 8146, Serez / 03609, Regional Manuscripts / BY00002395/1, National Library Manuscripts Collection / 06 Mil Yz A 6703, Manuscript Donations / 03522, Giresun Manuscripts / 00192, Erzurum / 11 were identified by us. Thus, the number of copies of Ahterî-i Sağîr that could be identified was 20. The majority of these copies were recorded as Ahterî-i Kebîr. After these two different views, the copies of Ahterî-i Kebir and Ahterî-i Sağîr were compared again in order to obtain a more accurate result. The copies taken as basis for comparison are the Yusuf Ağa Library / Ahterî-i Kebîr copy numbered YY0000009961, copied on 20-30 Muharrem 956, and the Yozgat / Ahterî-i Sağîr copy numbered 00395, copied on 960. The reason for choosing these copies is to show that Hulusi Kılıç's previous claim that 'there was a misunderstanding that there were large and small copies of the work due to some differences due to additions and deletions in later editions' is not actually correct. Because both copies were copied while the author was still alive and are not among the copies published recently. Another reason is that both copies are written in beautiful and legible calligraphy. Thus, the differences between the two copies will be seen more easily. When looking at the zahriye pages of both copies, the name of the work etc. is written in the Kebîr copy. There is no information. In the Sağîr Copy, the name of the work is recorded as Lügat-ı Ahterî-i Vasat. When we look at the introductions of both copies, the introduction of the prayer sentences is completely different from each other. In the copy of Kebîr, it begins as الحمد لله الذي شرفنا بالنطق والبيان. In the Sağîr copy, it is written in the introduction. It starts as . The author's name in both copies is Mustafa b. Şemseddin el-Karahisârî is stated as Eş-Şehîr bi'l-Ahterî. The reasons for writing the copies of Kebîr and Sağîr are stated in the introductions, and the reasons for writing the two copies are separate. Then, the arrangement of the works is mentioned. The arrangement of the works is the same, but the number of words in the sections and the words with which the sections begin differ. The differences will be better understood when the sections of the copies are examined and compared in order. The sections of both works are as follows: Faslü'l-Elifi ve'l-Bâ'i, Faslü'l-Elifi ve't-Tâ'i, Faslü'l-Elifi ve's-Sâ'i, Faslü'l-Elifi ve'l-Cîmi. According to the sections, information about the Kebîr copy and then the Sağir copy will be given. The first part of the copy of Kebîr begins with the word الأٌب and there are a total of 189 words in this part. The second part starts with the word الأت and there are 39 words in this part. The third part starts with the word الأث والأثاثة and there are 56 words in this part. The fourth part starts with the word الأج and has 99 words. There are a total of 383 words in the four sections mentioned. The first part of the Sağîr copy starts with the word الأبث and there are 118 words in this part. The second part starts with the word الأتان and there are 22 words in this part. The third part starts with the word الأثارة and there are 29 words in this part. The fourth part starts with the word الأجه and there are 53 words in this part. There are a total of 222 words in the last four sections. The similarity of the words at the end of both copies probably made the researchers believe that the two copies were the same. However, when the sections are examined, it is seen that the copies are separate works. In addition to this information, the presence of records as Ahterî-i Vasat on the zahriye page of the Yozgat / 00395 copy and as Ahterî-i Mutavvel at the top of the introduction in the Tercüman / 00076 copy gives undeniable information that there are different versions of this Ahterîn. In addition, this information is compatible with the tablature and teracim books.
